Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker (Identified) plays a critical role in delivering culturally safe, family-centred maternity services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, babies and families. Working across the antenatal, birthing, postnatal and early parenting journey, the role supports families through culturally informed care, advocacy, health education and care coordination while promoting positive health and wellbeing outcomes.

The successful candidate will work closely with midwives and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to provide culturally protected support, strengthen health literacy, assist with navigating the health system and advocate for the needs of families. The role also contributes to cultural education, community engagement, health promotion activities and the development of strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and service providers.

About you

- Provide culturally safe support and co-case management for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, infants and families throughout their maternity journey.
- Act as a cultural broker and advocate, supporting communication, informed decision-making, health literacy and navigation of healthcare services.
- Develop and deliver cultural awareness education and guidance to maternity and neonatal staff to strengthen culturally responsive care practices.




- Build and maintain strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, service providers and stakeholders to support coordinated care pathways.
- Contribute to culturally relevant health promotion, prevention and community engagement activities that improve maternal, infant and family wellbeing outcomes.
