SPS Facilities
Brisbane City
Queensland is the engine room of SPS Facilities. Nearly 85% of our national business operates from this state, which means the person who runs QLD effectively runs the company. This isn’t a "manage what’s there" role – it’s a hands-on, high-ownership position for someone who thrives on complexity, backs their own judgment, and genuinely enjoys the operational grind of a 600-person field workforce.
If you’ve spent the last decade building real operational instincts – managing people, owning P&L;, solving problems in the field – and you’re ready to step into the most consequential operations role in the business, keep reading.
About the Role
You’ll report directly to the CEO and hold full accountability for Queensland operations – metro and regional, government and commercial, everything from Cairns to the Gold Coast and out to Mt Isa. Your direct team spans Regional Managers, Area Managers, and Contract Managers operating across the state, and your client portfolio spans government agencies, commercial property, and industrial facilities – contracts that require you to be across the detail without getting lost in it.
We run a proprietary Workforce Management platform that gives you real-time visibility across your entire operation – scheduling, compliance, performance, and client reporting. You won’t be working around clunky systems; you’ll have the tools to actually manage at scale.
What You’ll Own
- Full P&L; accountability for Queensland – revenue, margin, cost management, and hitting targets that matter to the bottom line
- Leading a team of Area Managers across metro and regional QLD – coaching, developing, holding people accountable, and building a culture that retains good operators
- Client relationship ownership at a senior level – proactively managing key accounts, handling escalations, and converting satisfied clients into long-term partners
- Workforce compliance and Award management – you’ll work closely with HR and payroll to ensure our ~600 field staff are managed correctly under the Cleaning Services Award
- Tendering and growth – contributing to bid strategy, pricing, and contract negotiations as we continue to expand across government, commercial, and industrial sectors in QLD
- Field presence – this role requires genuine willingness to travel across QLD, including regional and remote sites; you lead from the front, not from behind a desk
Who We’re Looking For
We’re not looking for someone who has "seen it all before." We’re looking for someone who is still energised by the work – who picks up the phone when a client calls at 6pm, who knows their numbers without being prompted, and who takes genuine pride in running a clean, efficient, high-performing operation.
- Operational pedigree: Minimum 5 years in FM or cleaning services with genuine multi-site management experience – not just oversight, hands-on delivery
- People leadership: You’ve managed managers before. You know the difference between delegating and abdicating, and you build teams that function without you watching
- Commercial sharpness: Comfortable with P&L;, pricing strategy, contract terms, and the commercial reality of a labour-intensive services business
- Client credibility: You can walk into a room with a government procurement manager, a commercial property director,
or an industrial site manager and hold the conversation with confidence
- Tech comfort: You don’t need to be a developer, but you embrace systems and data. Our WFM platform gives you powerful tools – you’ll need to actually use them
- Accountability: You don’t look for someone to blame when things go wrong – you fix it, learn from it, and move on. This role has real consequences attached to it, and we need someone who is genuinely comfortable with that
What’s in It for You
- Genuine autonomy – you’ll have the authority to make decisions and move fast, without layers of corporate sign-off slowing everything down
- Competitive remuneration package commensurate with the scope of the role and your experience
- Direct access to leadership – you’ll work closely with the CEO and have genuine influence over the direction of the business
- Modern tools that actually work – our proprietary WFM platform gives you real-time operational visibility that most companies in this space don’t have
- A business on the move – SPS Facilities is growing nationally with robust QLD roots; the right person will grow with it
