Lead a key regulatory function for one of regional NSW's most liveable cities. Orange City Council is seeking an experienced building and environment professional to head our Building and Environment section, delivering certification, compliance, drainage and sustainability services that shape the future of our growing community.
This role requires current unrestricted Building Surveyor accreditation, or the ability to obtain this quickly.

About the Role
Reporting to the Director Development Services, the Manager Building and Environment leads and coordinates Council's construction regulation and sustainability program, ensuring effective certification, inspection, compliance, drainage, sustainability and cemetery services across the Orange Local Government Area. Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as Principal Certifier and providing clear advice on fire safety measures within buildings
- Leading certification, inspection and compliance functions across the section
- Overseeing drainage services and the strategic operations of the Orange General Cemetery
- Providing guidance to staff on unlawful construction matters and use of the NSW Planning Portal
- Managing and developing staff, including recruitment, performance management and professional development
- Managing budgets, reporting and driving continuous improvement across systems and practices
About You
You will bring:
- Relevant tertiary degree qualifications in Building or a related discipline
- Current unrestricted Building Surveyor accreditation under the Building Commission NSW, or the ability to obtain this quickly
- Extensive experience in a similar role, with detailed knowledge of local government administration and construction regulation
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to coach, mentor and manage staff
- High-level communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting and financial management
- A current Class C Driver Licence and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
