Are you an experienced capability or education leader looking for the chance to build something from the ground up in a purpose-led organisation?

Ready to design, build and launch learning solutions that will strengthen the thriving, critical sector that underpins Australia's prosperity, resilience and liveability?

Here's an opportunity to bring your commercial acumen and expertise in learning design to a role at the heart of the strategy which will create a sustainable water future for Australia.

Heart Talent is delighted to partner with the Australian Water Association — the peak body for Australia's water sector — as it enters a current chapter.

Powered by a renewed purpose to inspire, connect and transform, AWA is evolving from a connector of water professionals into a catalyst for system‑wide change and growing sector capability is one of the pillars of how that change happens.

With a new five-year strategy and genuine momentum, this is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organisation that is investing in capability, advocacy and sector-level impact

WHAT'S ON OFFER

- permanent, full time role
- Chatswood office
- hybrid working — 3 days in office/2 days WFH
- salary packaging and novated leasing options
- respected brand in a thriving sector
- a true ground‑up build with real autonomy
- investment in advocacy, capability and sector-level impact

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This role is about building a high-quality, market-relevant education program for the water sector that is also a sustainable revenue stream for the organisation.

Reporting to the Executive GM,

Advocacy and Capability, you’ll scope the opportunity, build the business case, and design and stand up a revenue-generating, user‑pays training model for the water sector.

This role will see you:

identify and address key capability gaps across the water sector

scope and define AWA's sector capability and learning offer

build the commercial business case for a user‑pays training model

work with stakeholders to leverage existing sector content and expertise

design and deliver market‑relevant programs and learning content

oversee the Careers in Water and mentoring programs through a direct report

build partnerships and manage external suppliers as required.

ABOUT YOU

You're an experienced learning, education or capability leader with a track record of designing and commercialising programs.

You're comfortable balancing strategic thinking with rolling up your sleeves and getting into the detail.

You're hands‑on and energised by the challenge building something which will have broad impact.

You’re an organised, proactive project manager who balances collaboration with autonomy.

You have strong business and financial acumen and confidence from business case through design and go‑to‑market execution.

Experience in water, utilities, engineering or an adjacent sector will help you hit the ground running in this role and is preferred but not essential.

You’re a highly‑accountable, positive and proactive professional with a genuine interest in doing work that matters.
