About the role
Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is seeking to appoint Two dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Consultants in Obstetrics to join our busy, forward-thinking Women's Health team. The post holder will provide consultant-level care within the Obstetric service, supporting the assessment and ongoing management of pregnancies. You will work closely with senior clinicians to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care and contribute to service development, teaching and governance.
Main duties
- Antenatal Clinics
- Elective Caesarean Lists - 0800 - 1700. Pre and Post op Ward rounds are built into these times.
- Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space and secretarial support is provided
- Weekend On-call duties for Obstetrics is shared with 16 colleagues on an approximately 1:8 basis - Friday/Sunday on-call weekend - resident 08:00 to 19.30 hours during weekends Saturday and Sunday and then non resident until 08:00 - Saturday on-call weekend as above - Short working weekend - 08:00 to 16:00 Saturday and Sunday (no overnight on-call) - non-patient-facing duties on a post-on call day
- Hot Week (Alternate Antenatal/Labour Ward) 1 week in 8: Monday to Friday 08:00 - 18:00 hrs (relieved of other activities during this period)
- Weekday On-call duties for Obstetrics is shared with 16 colleagues on an approximately 1:16 basis (resident from 17:30 hours until 23:00 hours during weekdays Monday to Friday and then non resident until 08:00) - non-patient-facing duties on a post-on call day.
- Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service.

Essential person specification requirements
- Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT in O&G;
- Medical Degree from recognised medical school
- MRCOG or equivalent
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- ATSM Advanced Labour Ward practice or equivalent ATSM Obstetric Medicine or equivalent
- Fully accredited by college and acceptable to college representative.
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of an Obstetrics Service
- Appropriate experience in Obstetrics To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Service.
- Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
- Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
- Good time management.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services.
- Ability to organise & manage e.g. outpatient priorities / theatre lists
- Experience of audit
- Ability & willingness to work within the Trust & NHS performance framework & targets
- Ability to manage & lead junior staff
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and patients.
- Flexibility.
- Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies
- Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and ability to evidence competencies Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) Clearance
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Good interpersonal skills
