An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Council’s Legaland Governance branch in the position of Senior Lawyer. You will be responsiblefor analysing and advising on various legal issues affecting local governmentwith an emphasis on contractual drafting and negotiation.You will besupported by the Manager Legal and Governance as well as a Lawyer and will alsoinstruct, and liaise with, Council’s external legal panel. We pride ourselveson providing high quality legal services to our internal clients so an emphasison good customer service is expected.

Degree qualification inLaw or equivalent entitling to admission to practice as a solicitor orbarrister in NSW

Admission to practice asa solicitor or barrister in the State of New South Wales and a currentPracticing Certificate allowing legal practice in Council

Experience in one ormore of the following areas of law: commercial/contract, property,planning, intellectual property, privacy, administrative and localgovernment law

Proven ability to assessand interpret information to formulate recommendations and providespecialist advice to enable the organisation to achieve quality outcomes

Specialist knowledge andproven legal experience preparing, reviewing and advising on a range oflegal agreements

Demonstrated commitmentto continuous improvement, with a strong focus on providing qualityadvice

Demonstrated excellentverbal and written communication skills including experience in writingand producing advice, correspondence, reports, policies, procedures, legalbriefs and submissions to a high standard





Demonstrated ability toprioritise work and meet deadlines

Demonstrated high levelinterpersonal and teamwork skills dealing with all levels of managementand staff

Demonstrated ability tobuild strong relationships by influencing and negotiating outcomes thatadd value to the organisation

Understanding andcommitment to ethical practice and always acting with probity

Experience in localgovernment or a government environment

Working knowledge ofCourt documents, processes, and protocols

Specialist knowledge andskills in interpreting legislation relating to Local Governmentoperations, in particular Local Government Act 1993, GovernmentInformation (Public Access) Act 2009, Privacy and Personal InformationProtection Act 1998, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979,Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 and Public InterestDisclosures Act 1994

Broad policy skills withknowledge and understanding of government structures andinter-governmental relationships.
