This is an opportunity to use your financial and administrative expertise in a purpose-driven organisation supporting young people across Townsville and Mount Isa.

Key responsibilities

In this wide-ranging role, you will:

- Research grant opportunities and coordinate grant applications.

- Record income and expenditure accurately and promptly using Xero.
- Undertake accounts receivable functions.
- Develop and monitor program and project budgets.
- Assist with the preparation of funding acquittals and financial reports.
- Support the coordination of financial audits.
- Assist with maintaining the asset register, including depreciation and disposals.
- Draft financial information for grant applications and business cases.
- Liaise with auditors, banks, insurers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to the review and improvement of financial policies, procedures and systems.
- Support vehicle fleet management in collaboration with the Administration Officer.

About you

You will bring sound financial knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.

You are comfortable working independently while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve accurate and timely outcomes.

You will have:

- A bachelor’s degree in business, finance or a related discipline; or a diploma-level qualification supported by extensive relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in financial operations, ideally within a not-for-profit or community services environment.
- Experience preparing and monitoring budgets and completing funding acquittals.
- An understanding of reconciliations, reporting, audit processes and regulatory compliance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to prepare clear reports and support funding submissions.
- A proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused approach.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and ongoing professional development.
- Knowledge of basic human resources processes, including recruitment administration, recordkeeping and employee credential management, would also be advantageous.

Mandatory requirements

The successful applicant must:

- Hold or be eligible to obtain a current Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
- Be willing to complete a National Police Check issued within the previous six months.

QYS is a proud Child Safe Organisation committed to safeguarding children and young people. We uphold the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, the Child Safe Standards and comply with the Queensland Reportable Conduct Scheme. The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is at the centre of everything we do.

Appointment to this position is subject to holding or obtaining a current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and a Police History Check.
