Where you'll be working:
The John Hunter Hospital Engineering Department consists of over 50 dedicated staff responsible for reactive and planned maintenance across the John Hunter Hospital campus and associated facilities. The team supports a diverse range of buildings, plant and equipment that are critical to delivering healthcare services to the Hunter New England community.
You’ll be part of a collaborative mechanical team working alongside experienced tradespeople and reporting directly to the Mechanical Supervisor.
About the role:
As a Fitter, you'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing a broad range of mechanical systems and equipment across the hospital campus.
Your work will include:
- Reactive breakdown maintenance and fault finding
- Preventive maintenance of mechanical plant and equipment
- Maintenance of air conditioning and pumping systems
- General fitting and fabrication work
- Repairs and maintenance of hospital equipment including patient beds, wheelchairs, trolleys and IV poles
- Supporting the ongoing reliability and performance of critical hospital infrastructure

Remuneration and benefits:
Applicants who can demonstrate five years of post-trade employment experience will commence at Level 4 of the NSW Health Skilled Trades Award, with a salary of $75,882 per annum + award allowances + overtime.

About you:
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
- A completed mechanical trade apprenticeship
- Trade Certificate and Tradesman's Certificate of Proficiency
- Strong fitting and maintenance experience
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills
- A commitment to safety and quality workmanship
- Post-trade qualifications will be highly regarded.
