Keep Launnie Moving
Every trip across Launceston relies on a transport network that works, whether it’s the school run, the morning commute or a delivery heading across town. As our City’s Traffic Engineer, you’ll be the one keeping it all moving. Joining our City Infrastructure Engineering Team, you’ll help keep our transport network safe, efficient and ready for what’s next, and play a real part in shaping a connected, liveable city.
You’ll deliver traffic engineering services across the city, from modelling and technical advice to road safety assessments and contemporary transport solutions. You’ll work closely with colleagues, community members and external partners to get safe and efficient transport outcomes for the region. And because we’re big on work life balance, you may have access to a 9 day fortnight or 4 day week depending on your role, along with Wellness Leave and Fitness Passport.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Plan and model transport network performance and future transport needs
- Run traffic modelling, interpret data and prepare technical reports
- Provide engineering advice on traffic design standards, codes and legislation
- Investigate road safety, parking and traffic issues and recommend practical solutions
- Lead line marking and other traffic-related maintenance programs
- Support the development of forward works programs
- Respond to customer enquiries and prepare technical assessments
About You
You’re an engineering qualified who loves solving real problems for real people. You can dig into the data, spot what matters and explain it clearly to anyone, whether that’s a community member, a councillor or a contractor. You live our organisational values and genuinely care about making transport safer and smoother for our community.
We are looking for someone with:
- A Bachelor of Engineering (Traffic) or similar qualification, backed by relevant transport industry experience
- Knowledge of traffic design standards, codes and relevant legislation
- Experience in transport planning, strategic network analysis or traffic engineering
- Confidence with traffic modelling software, records management systems and Microsoft Office
- Great communication and negotiation skills, with reports that make sense to technical and non-technical audiences alike
- A commitment to quality customer service and community engagement
