North Shore Veterinary Specialist Hospital – Permanent Full Time Surgery Nurse

North Shore Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Centre is a boutique referral hospital centrally located in the heart of Sydney, providing leading specialist care 24/7, 365 days a year.

We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic & experienced Surgical Veterinary Nurse to join our growing team on a Full‑Time basis (Part‑Time will be considered for the right applicant).

About You

- Strong interest and experience in surgical procedures and patient care.
- Previous referral surgical nursing experience is desirable, but not essential.
- Knowledge of a wide range of surgical procedures and pre‑ and post‑operative patient care.
- Passionate about providing exceptional patient and client care.
- Professionalism, excellent customer service and empathy for clients in difficult situations.
- Ability to work autonomously with excellent time‑management skills.
- Harmonious teamwork with other hospital staff.
- Robust work ethic and friendly attitude.
- Experience in different sedation and anaesthesia techniques for sick and critically ill patients.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Willingness to learn.

Qualifications





Certificate IV in Vet Nursing or Veterinary Technician degree with a minimum of four years’ experience.

About the Job

- Ensure smooth running of the surgical service, including assessment of patients and planning the day.
- Assist with a range of specialist surgical procedures, CT, radiography, charting, and more.
- Place intravenous and urinary catheters; phlebotomy; run internal diagnostics and organise external tests.
- Perform high‑quality radiographs, anaesthetic (including intubation) and intensive care monitoring.
- Provide pre‑ and post‑operative care.
- Collaborate with clinicians and other services.
- Take leadership responsibility in running and managing cases and the hospital.
- Keep clients informed, provide advice, answer questions and soothe fears.
- Work weekday and weekend shifts, with public holidays required.
