The Civil Designer is responsible for delivering high-quality civil design and drafting outputs across a range of infrastructure, urban development, and water-related projects. Working within the Brisbane team, the role focuses on producing accurate, buildable designs using 12d and AutoCAD, while supporting engineers and project managers in delivering practical and cost-effective solutions. The position involves detailed design, documentation, and coordination across multi-disciplinary projects, contributing to delivery from concept through to construction. The Civil Designer works under the guidance of a Project Manager or Senior Engineer and collaborates closely with internal teams to ensure designs meet technical, regulatory, and client requirements, particularly within the Queensland regulatory environment.
Key responsibilities
Undertake design and drafting for multi-disciplinary civil projects, including culverts and pipe networks, detention basins and dams, bulk earthworks and site grading, and civil infrastructure including roads, water and sewer networks
Develop detailed 12d models and AutoCAD drawings
Prepare high-quality construction documentation, including plans, long sections, cross sections, set-out and design details
Ensure all designs are accurate, clear, concise, constructable, efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with relevant standards and authority requirements
Review and check drafting outputs to maintain quality and consistency
Resolve complex technical drafting and design issues
Plan, manage,
and deliver assigned design and modelling tasks within agreed budgets and deadlines
Assist Project Managers in determining design and drafting resource requirements and identifying work suitable for outsourcing
Support preparation of quantities, cost estimates, and documentation packages
Identify and communicate design risks, constraints, and opportunities
Coordinate with internal disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery
Provide guidance and mentoring to junior designers and graduates
Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards, workflows, and systems
About you
Proven ability to deliver high-quality civil design across urban development and infrastructure projects
Strong understanding of local authority requirements, SEQ standards, and approval processes
Advanced skills in 12d and AutoCAD, with the ability to develop designs from concept through to detailed documentation
High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality and compliance
Capable of identifying constraints, risks, and resolving complex design challenges
Able to manage design tasks, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines
Builds solid working relationships across engineers, designers, and project teams
Willing to mentor junior designers and contribute to team capability
Diploma of Engineering Technology (or similar), or significant industry experience as a Civil Designer
Typically 3–5+ years' experience in civil design within a consultancy or professional services environment
Demonstrated experience delivering projects in Queensland, particularly within South East Queensland (SEQ)
