Mission Software Systems (MSS) brings togetherexpertiseacross intelligence, software, and cloud to deliver end-to-end capability supporting the full intelligence lifecycle, from planning through to dissemination and feedback. The team fosters a culture of innovation,leveragingmodern engineering practices and shared infrastructure to rapidly build, test, and deploy software solutions across a range of environments, including cloud. MSS also plays a key role in advancing technology modernisation within Government, delivering scalable and adaptable solutions for complex enterprise challenges.
The Opportunity
Join a sustainment-focused engineering team responsible for the operation, deployment, and continual improvement of enterprise geospatial platforms. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will support critical services that process, manage, and publish geospatial information used in the delivery of meteorological and geospatial products across Australia.
This role combines platform engineering, operational support, automation, and geospatial technologies within a highly available 24×7 environment. The successful candidate will participate in a rotating on-call roster.
In this role, you will:
- Support and improve enterprise geospatial platforms and services, including GIS server and map caching technologies.
- Deploy and maintain applications and services across Linux and Windows environments using automation tooling.
- Develop and maintain automation,
operational tooling, and data processing workflows.
- Contribute to release, deployment, testing, and change management activities.
- Monitor platform health, investigate issues, and support incident resolution.
- Maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to deliver platform improvements and operational outcomes.
About You
You enjoy solving complex technical problems, supporting production systems, and improving platform reliability. You are comfortable working across operational support, automation, and engineering activities within a cooperative team environment.
Essential for this role:
- Experience supporting, maintaining, or improving enterprise applications or platforms in production.
- Experience with geospatial technologies, GIS platforms, or spatial data workflows.
- Experience with automation, scripting, or deployment tooling.
- Experience troubleshooting complex systems across Linux and/or Windows environments.
- Understanding of version control, testing, deployment, and change management practices.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to participate in a rotating on-call roster.
Advantageous:
- Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server, GeoServer, or similar GIS platforms.
- Experience with map caching technologies such as MapCache.
- Experience with geospatial data formats and services (e.g. NetCDF, GeoTIFF).
- Experience with data integration or workflow orchestration platforms (e.g. Apache NiFi).
- Experience with Python for automation, data processing, or operational tooling.
- Experience with enterprise databases, monitoring, or observability platforms.
This role requires the successful applicant to be an Australian citizen and hold an NV-1 security clearance.
