Description

Job Type: Full-time | Location: Sydney, Australia | Department: Engineering | Reporting to: Engineering Manager | Work Location: #Hybrid

IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.

The Electrical Design Lead will act as the Owner’s Representative throughout the full lifecycle of our high-performance compute (HPC) projects, with a focus on medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is central to shaping the electrical design of our Australian data centres from early-stage concept through to detailed engineering, equipment commissioning, and handover.

With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

- Minimum 8 years of relevant post-qualification experience in low voltage and medium voltage electrical design, within a design engineering consultancy, heavy industrial or manufacturing facility, or mission-critical data centre workplace.
- Deep knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (including AS/NZS 3000, AS 2067, AS 61439, AS/NZS 4777) and applicable state WHS/OHS legislation and codes of practice.
- Proficiency in the specification and application of electrical equipment including grounding systems, power transformers, standby generators, switchgear, cables, motors, VFDs, and all major components of an electrical distribution system for energy-intensive data centres.
- Demonstrated experience in the design of complete electrical distribution systems: load lists, single-line diagrams, cable schedules, equipment arrangements, and interconnection drawings.
- Proficiency in industry-standard electrical design software, including one or more of: AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, ETAP , EPLAN, Easy Power, or equivalent tools used in the Australian market.
- Familiarity with Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Permits to Work (PTW), and electrical safety obligations under state WHS/OHS frameworks.
- Previous experience working with or for Tier III or mission-critical data centres is highly desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical and executive audiences.
