Eligibility: This role is open to expressions of interest from all ongoing, temporary and casual employees in the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for an Environmental Planning Officer to work as part of a statewide team supporting the protection of the natural, cultural and social values of its parks and reserves.

The environmental planning officer investigates and provides technical advice to NPWS staff on a range of complex environmental planning matters, including major projects. Hence, the position is suited to someone who can:

- Research and apply critical-thinking techniques in analysing information, including in environmental impact statements




- Assess the potential for interrelationships between development proposals and park management obligations
- Identify and evaluate risks associated with a proposal and develop appropriate mitigation strategies
- Share information and make recommendations based on relevant evidence across teams and units to enable informed decision making
- Write fluently in plain English and in a range of styles and formats.

Essential requirements

- A relevant degree or tertiary qualification or experience in a similar working environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter including contemporary issues, best practice, relevant legislation and statutory obligations
- Current Australian driver’s licence
