Account Manager – New Business Development

Are you a high-performing sales professional ready to make an impact in healthcare and education? Would you like to work for a global company that advances science, technology, and health?

About the Team

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Elsevier Health eSales team supporting customers across Australia, NewZealand, and the PacificIslands. We partner with healthcare providers and higher education institutions to improve patient outcomes and academic excellence. With consecutive years of record‑breaking performance, you’ll be joining a high‑achieving, collaborative, and experienced sales team.

About the Role

We are seeking an Account Manager – New Business Development to drive growth across clinical and higher education institutions in SouthAustralia, the AustralianCapitalTerritory, Tasmania, and the PacificIslands. In this role, you will identify and secure new business, expand existing customer relationships, and manage a strategic, direct sales process within a matrixed organisation. You will develop strong professional networks within priority and strategic accounts while positioning Elsevier as a trusted partner in digital clinical and education solutions. Reporting to the Head of eSales ANZ, this is a permanent, full‑time role. The position is ideally based in Sydney, with a hybrid home/office arrangement and domestic and occasional international travel. If you bring proven sales success in healthcare, technology, or academia, this role could be an excellent next step in your career.

Responsibilities

- Drive recent sales growth across Elsevier’s digital clinical and education solutions.
- Identify, prospect, and secure new business with new customers.
- Cross‑sell and expand solutions within existing accounts.
- Build strong relationships with a diverse range of customers, including C‑suite executives and senior stakeholders.
- Run the full customer cycle; discovery, qualification, solution design, and close working closely with education portfolio specialists, commercial, and technical teams.
- Own the hard conversations governance, compliance technical objections and RFPs.
- Bring market intelligence back into the business; competitive signals, unmet needs, and where AI adoption in clinical and health education is heading.
- Participate in strategic customer briefings, conferences and industry events.

- Develop and execute territory and account plans using recognised sales methodologies (e.g. MEDDPICC, Franklin Covey).
- Maintain accurate Salesforce data, pipeline management, and revenue forecasting.

Requirements

- Have 3–5 years experience in account management or consultative sales, ideally within the healthcare and/or academic markets.
- Clinical experience or qualifications are highly regarded.
- Have demonstrated experience in new‑business development, including prospecting, negotiation, and closing.
- Can hold your own with a CTO and a Dean in the same week, navigating senior technical and non‑technical stakeholders without switching into two different people.
- Able to make complex things clear, not by dumbing them down, but by finding the right frame for the right audience.
- Are comfortable with the technical landscape: SaaS platforms, APIs, data infrastructure, and how AI‑enabled products actually work.
- Able to run your own deals and exceed targets.
- Organized through long cycles, no script needed, and you don't confuse activity with progress.
- Be process-driven with strong commercial, analytical, and planning skills.
- Have excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Have proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms.
- Be willing to travel domestically and internationally.
