ICYS Ipswich Community Youth Service is seeking an experienced and compassionate Young Family Support Worker to join our Family Support Worker Program, working within the Young Families Connect (YFC) program at Ipswich State High School.

This is a unique opportunity to work alongside pregnant and parenting young people, providing practical, relationship-based support that strengthens parenting capacity, supports continued engagement in education and helps young families build greater stability and independence.

ABOUT YOUNG FAMILIES CONNECT

Young Families Connect is an award-winning specialist program that has operated in partnership with Mission Australia and Ipswich State High School for more than 16 years. This partnership is now expanding to include ICYS as a direct support partner.

The program supports young mothers and their children to remain engaged in education and successfully complete high school, while providing the practical parenting, family and individual support young parents need along the way.

Over the years, YFC has supported hundreds of young parents to successfully graduate from high school, with many progressing to further education,

training and employment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the ICYS Young Family Support Worker, you will provide holistic, strengths-based and trauma-informed case management and practical support to pregnant and parenting young people and their children.

No two young families will have exactly the same needs.

You may be supporting a young parent to overcome barriers affecting their school attendance, helping a family navigate housing or financial difficulties, connecting them with health or specialist services, building parenting confidence, advocating alongside them or simply being the consistent professional support they need to work towards their goals.

Your work will include:

- supporting young parents to remain engaged in education and work towards future training or employment;
- building trusting and qualified relationships with young parents and their children;
- providing individualised case management, support planning and practical assistance;
- strengthening parenting confidence, knowledge and practical skills;
- undertaking outreach and home visits where appropriate;
- assisting young families experiencing housing instability, financial hardship, family breakdown, social isolation or other vulnerabilities;
- connecting young parents with health, housing, financial, parenting, education and community services;
- advocating for young people and ensuring their voice and choices remain central to their support; and
- working collaboratively with Ipswich State High School, Young Families Connect, ICYS programs and other community and specialist services.

Above all, you'll work alongside young parents, recognising their strengths, aspirations and capacity to create positive futures for themselves and their children.

ABOUT YOU

We're looking for someone who can build genuine, respectful relationships with young people while maintaining strong professional boundaries and delivering high-quality case management and family support.

You will ideally bring:

- a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Services, Family Support or a related field, and demonstrated relevant experience;
- experience providing case management and/or individual support to young people and young families;
- experience supporting young people experiencing vulnerability, disadvantage or multiple and complex barriers;
- an understanding of the unique challenges experienced by pregnant and parenting young people remaining engaged in education;
- strong case management, assessment, support planning, advocacy and referral skills;
- a trauma-informed, strengths-based and relationship-focused approach;
- the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary and interagency teams; and
- a commitment to culturally safe, inclusive and respectful practice.

Experience working within or alongside a school environment will be highly regarded.

WHAT WE OFFER

- Part-time – 22.5 hours per week
- Tuesday to Thursday – 3 x 7.5-hour days
- SCHADS Award Level 4 – $46.70 per hour, pending experience and/or qualification status
- Superannuation and leave loading
- Salary packaging benefits to increase your take-home pay
- ICYS work vehicle and laptop for service delivery (garaged at ICYS overnight)
- Regular professional supervision and support
- The opportunity to work within an established, respected youth organisation that has supported young people and families in the Ipswich region for more than 40 years

The position is currently funded to 30 June 2027, with extension subject to continued funding.

Each workday commences and concludes at ICYS Head Office, Ipswich, where you will collect and return your ICYS vehicle, laptop and other required resources. Service delivery occurs primarily from Ipswich State High School, with outreach, home and community-based support provided as required.

READY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

If you believe becoming a parent at a young age should never limit a young person's future, we'd love to hear from you.

Applicants must hold, or be able to obtain, a Positive Notice Blue Card, National Criminal History Check, current First Aid Certificate and current Driver's Licence.
