About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to join its mining operations in Western Australia and play a key role in the planning, optimisation, and delivery of open pit mining activities.
This is a technically focused role responsible for developing short and long-term mine plans, optimising production performance, and supporting the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of an open pit mine. Working closely with geology, survey, processing, and mining operations teams, the successful candidate will contribute to achieving production targets while driving continuous improvement in mine planning and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities
Mine Planning & Production
- Develop short-term mine plans and long-term Life of Mine (LOM) production plans.
- Prepare mine production schedules, forecasts, and technical reports for management.
- Review and update mine plans to optimise ore extraction and achieve production targets.
- Monitor production performance, ore grades, and mining progress against plan.
- Support pit optimisation, cut-off grade assessments, and mineable ore reserve evaluations.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual production reports.
- Identify opportunities to improve mine planning, productivity, and operational efficiency.
Mining Operations Support
- Coordinate daily mining activities including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and waste dumping.
- Review blast designs and monitor blast hole drilling to ensure design compliance and optimal fragmentation.
- Work closely with mining operations to maintain a consistent ore supply to the processing plant.
- Coordinate with geology, surveying, and mining teams to support effective mine production.
- Assist with site investigations and evaluate future mining opportunities where required.
Contractor & Technical Management
- Oversee mining contractors and consultants to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to required standards.
- Review and verify contractor work completed, progress claims, and supporting documentation.
- Monitor contractor performance against mine plans and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate regular operational meetings with contractors and technical teams.
Mine Engineering & Technical Governance
- Maintain mine planning documentation, production records, and engineering databases.
- Conduct regular pit inspections and monitor pit wall and waste dump stability.
- Develop and implement monitoring programs for pit wall stability and final wall rehabilitation.
- Ensure waste dump and TSF construction activities comply with design specifications.
- Support mine reconciliation activities in collaboration with the geology team.
- Ensure all engineering reports are completed accurately and on time.
Health, Safety & Leadership
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all mining activities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and statutory mining regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and eliminate unsafe working conditions.
- Supervise and mentor junior mining engineers and technical support personnel.
- Provide engineering and administrative support to the Mining Manager.
- Undertake additional duties as required to support mining operations.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Mineral Resource Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in mining, including at least 5 years in open pit mining operations.
- Proven experience developing short-term and Life of Mine (LOM) mine plans.
- Strong knowledge of open pit mine planning, scheduling, production forecasting, and pit optimisation.
- Experience coordinating mining contractors and multidisciplinary operational teams.
- Strong understanding of drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and open pit production activities.
- Experience preparing mine plans, technical reports, and production analysis.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with geology, survey, processing, and operational teams.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in gold mining operations.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior mining engineers.
- Proficiency with industry-standard mine planning and scheduling software (e.g. Deswik, Vulcan, MineSched, Surpac, or similar).
- Knowledge of Australian mining legislation and environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience with contractor management and cost control.
- Familiarity with pit wall stability monitoring and geotechnical assessments.
- Exposure to Life of Mine planning and strategic mine optimisation.
