Are you passionate about improving outcomes for older people undergoing surgery? Manning Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2 to join our Geriatric Perioperative Service (GPS). This is an exciting opportunity to provide advanced clinical leadership and expert consultation for older patients throughout their perioperative journey.

Working collaboratively with surgical, anaesthetic, geriatric, nursing and allied health teams, you will coordinate comprehensive assessment, care planning and evidence-based interventions that support safe, high-quality care. Through the early identification and management of perioperative risk factors, you will play a key role in enhancing patient outcomes, promoting recovery and reducing length of stay. You'll join a supportive multidisciplinary team committed to innovation, collaboration and person-centred care, with ongoing opportunities for career development and leadership.

What You Will

Be Doing As the Clinical Nurse Consultant

- Geriatric Perioperative Service, you will provide advanced clinical expertise and leadership to support older patients undergoing surgery.

You will: Provide expert clinical consultation and comprehensive geriatric assessment for eligible patients throughout the perioperative journey. Develop and coordinate individualised care plans to optimise patient outcomes and recovery. Identify and proactively manage risk factors that may influence surgical outcomes and length of stay.

Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, physicians, nursing staff and allied health professionals to coordinate evidence-based care. Provide clinical leadership, education and mentorship to staff across the multidisciplinary team. Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives, service development and evidence-based practice.

Advocate for older patients and promote safe, person-centred care across the perioperative service.

The Geriatric Perioperative Service works closely with surgical, anaesthetic, geriatric, nursing and allied health teams to optimise care for older adults undergoing surgery.

About You

You are an experienced Registered Nurse with advanced clinical knowledge and a passion for improving the care of older people. You are a confident clinician with excellent assessment, communication and leadership skills, and you thrive in a cooperative multidisciplinary environment. Our ideal candidate is committed to evidence-based practice and enjoys coordinating complex care, supporting colleagues through education and mentorship, and driving service improvement to deliver the best possible outcomes for patients.

Essential Requirements

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA. Minimum five years' full-time equivalent post-registration experience, including at least three years' experience working with older people in an acute, perioperative, surgical or geriatric setting. Relevant postgraduate qualifications or working towards postgraduate qualifications in Gerontology, Perioperative Nursing or a related specialty, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Demonstrated advanced clinical assessment, care coordination and leadership skills. Current driver's licence with the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes.
