CrewSelect is seeking a motivated Yard Operations Assistant to provide essential operational and maintenance support at our client's Belleview facility. This ill initially commence at their Nowergup facility for the first 5 months then move to their Bellevue facility. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that keeps Perth’s passenger rail network running safely and efficiently.

About the Role In this hands-on role, you’ll support the Yard Operations Team with daily yard activities, ensuring the safe movement of railcars, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting with general maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

- Drive or pilot passenger trains within the Nowergup and Bellevue facilities (for qualified and competent staff).
- Follow all movement instructions to ensure safe operations within the yard
- Regular nightshifts and weekend shifts

Yard Operations & Maintenance

- Perform general yard duties including poster installation/removal, weed spraying, water bottle refilling, and housekeeping.
- Assist with washing, rinsing, and graffiti removal on passenger trains using appropriate cleaning products and safety equipment.
- Conduct pre-inspection checks on incoming trains — review driver logbooks, gather verbal reports, and inspect for service needs.
- Carry out minor facility or rollingstock maintenance tasks (as trained).

Qualifications

- Valid Class C Driver’s Licence (required for operating company vehicles or Kubota equipment).
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to be multi-skilled and up-skilled.




- Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining role-relevant competencies.

- Reliable
- Physically fit – physical role including climbing in and out of train cabs, walking on uneven ground
- Strong spoken English is essential, including being clear and easy to understand over radio communication
- Adaptable in changing conditions
- Comfortable following instructions and established procedures
- Team-oriented, with a relaxed attitude and good banter with teammates
- Professional during busy periods, while able to stay relaxed during quieter times
- Open to shift work and overtime
- Punctual, with strong attendance and minimal sick leave
- Positive in attitude, even if they have less experience
- Can work independently but communicate well as part of a team
- Takes direction well
- Able to speak up when needed
- Attitude is very significant. A candidate with less experience but a strong reliability, and willingness to learn may be a better fit than someone more experienced who does not work well with the team.
- Previous experience in a rail, transport, or maintenance yard environment will be highly regarded, but not essential — training will be provided for the right candidate.
