Job Description
Silicon Quantum Computing We are hiring a Quantum Engineer to scale and advance SQC's silicon multi-qubit processors. Working alongside quantum physicists, atomic fabrication engineers, software and hardware engineers, you'll design, characterise, and optimise quantum processors based on atom spin qubits.
You will operate advanced cryogenic and control systems to perform low-noise qubit measurements, validate device performance, refine qubit control and readout, and support the scale-up toward large error-corrected architectures. This role suits an experimentalist who is comfortable with coding, rigorous in data analysis, and motivated to translate quantum device physics into scalable processor performance. Benefits
At SQC you will work at the frontier of quantum computing alongside a world-class multidisciplinary team of physicists and engineers, with access to unique atomic-scale fabrication and measurement capabilities. We offer a collaborative, fast-moving research environment where your work directly shapes the scale-up of error-corrected quantum processors. The position is full-time and based at our Sydney (Kensington NSW) facility.
Task & responsibilities
- Operating and maintaining cryogenic dilution refrigerator systems for advanced experiments on silicon quantum processors
- Designing and executing experiments to characterise processor performance, from low-level device stability measurements through to algorithmic benchmarking of scaled processors
- Performing low-noise qubit measurements and refining qubit control and readout methods for atom spin qubit architectures
- Developing and maintaining measurement automation and data analysis code
- Analysing complex experimental datasets and extracting clear performance metrics against defined requirements
- Driving project-based development of recent device designs and novel measurement capabilities
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams across atomic fabrication, cleanroom, theory, hardware and software to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables
- Maintaining and supporting specialised laboratory and RF measurement equipment
- Contributing to technical strategy and innovation by proposing and implementing new ideas and solutions
- Monitoring industry trends and emerging technologies in quantum computing and quantum error correction, and documenting experimental findings in technical reports
Qualification & experience
- Bachelor's, Honours or Master's degree in physics, quantum engineering, electrical engineering or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience measuring multi-qubit or equivalent quantum devices in academic or industrial environments
- Proficiency in coding using Python
- Proven ability to conduct independent experimental research and drive projects to completion
- Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain a strategic perspective in a dynamic start-up environment
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams with shared ownership of outcomes
- Desirable: a PhD in physics, quantum engineering, electrical engineering or a related discipline; a strong background in RF measurement techniques and microwave engineering; and hands‑on experience setting up and operating cryogenic dilution refrigerator systems
