About the Development Coordination Authority

The Development Coordination Authority (DCA) has been established as part of the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure as the authoritative NSW Government source of technical input across the planning system. The Authority brings together a deep, multi‑disciplinary capability inside the planning department – specialists in natural hazards, environment, heritage, water, transport and other disciplines – and delivers it to decision makers to help shape development outcomes across NSW.

Joining the DCA presents a unique opportunity to help build and embed a recent model for delivering technical input into the planning system, working alongside DCA's specialists to provide coordinated expert advice and decisions that shape housing, infrastructure and sustainable communities across the State.

The role

This role finalises medium‑to‑high‑complexity referrals – integrated development, concurrence and consultation – for development applications across NSW, in one of DCA's four regional RC&A; teams. Working alongside DCA's technical experts, the role becomes a specialist in NSW Government input and brings complex advice across many disciplines together into pragmatic, coordinated responses.

Acting as the single point of contact for allocated matters, the role exercises sound judgement on the final position and builds relationships with councils as one of DCA's principal customers.

It involves the critical engagement that shapes how technical advice lands in planning decisions – bringing input from across DCA and external agencies into clear, well‑supported responses. The role also supports junior officers through guidance and knowledge sharing, and contributes to ongoing improvements in how the service operates.

DCA's four regional RC&A; teams align to the Local Planning and Council Support (LPCS) regions: Central, West and South; North, East and Central Coast; Hunter and Northern; and Southern, Western and Macarthur. Please indicate your preferred location in your cover letter.

What you will bring to the role

- Knowledge of the NSW planning, assessment and approval environments including relevant legislation, policy, regulations, standards and codes of practice.
- Demonstrated experience in customer service and enquiry management.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to statutory timeframes.
- Ability to communicate well with diverse customers and stakeholders (written and verbal).
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate technical advice across multiple disciplines and exercise sound judgement when finalising responses.

Essential requirement

- Degree qualification in a related relevant discipline.
