About the role
We are seeking a talented and reliable Chef to join our kitchen team at our well-established café in Canberra. You will prepare and cook a variety of café-style dishes, including breakfast, brunch and lunch items, while ensuring food quality, taste and presentation consistently meet the café's standards.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of café-style dishes, including breakfast, brunch and lunch items.
- Assist with developing and creating new menu items and seasonal specials.
- Ensure food quality, taste and presentation consistently meet the café's standards.
- Manage day-to-day kitchen operations, including stock control, inventory and food costs.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Supervise and train junior kitchen staff, ensuring consistency in food preparation and presentation.
- Work closely with café management and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Monitor portion sizes,
food preparation and presentation to maintain consistency.
- Assist with ordering and work with suppliers to source fresh, high-quality ingredients.
- Minimise food waste and ensure ingredients are stored and rotated correctly.
About you
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Chef, preferably in a busy café or restaurant environment.
- Strong knowledge of café-style cooking, including breakfast and lunch service.
- Ability to work efficiently in a quick-paced kitchen and manage multiple orders during busy periods.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to supervise and support other kitchen staff when required.
- Passion for food with strong attention to quality, consistency and presentation.
- Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures.
- Relevant culinary qualifications or certification are preferred.
