Three Islands Whale Shark Dive | Exmouth, Ningaloo Reef

Three Islands Whale Shark Dive is an award-winning ecotourism operator based in Exmouth, Western Australia, delivering unforgettable experiences swimming and snorkelling with whale sharks on the incredible Ningaloo Reef.

We’re looking for an experienced, confident and professional Skipper / Master to join our team for the 2027 season and beyond.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This isn’t just a job driving a boat.

As our Skipper, you’ll play a key leadership role in our operation — responsible for the safe and professional operation of our fleet, while helping lead an energetic on-water team of around 20 crew members.

You’ll be working aboard our two 55ft custom-built tour vessels, supported by two NIAD tenders, in one of Australia's most spectacular marine environments.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their vessel, their crew and the experience they deliver to every guest.

⚓ WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

As Master, you will be responsible for:

- Safe and professional operation of our vessels

- The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew

- Leading and supporting our on-water team

- Maintaining high standards of vessel presentation and operational readiness

- Regular vessel maintenance and troubleshooting

- Assisting with our annual summer vessel refit

- Ensuring operations comply with relevant AMSA and maritime legislation

- Working closely with management and crew to maintain a solid safety culture

- Creating exceptional, memorable experiences for our guests

- Mentoring and developing younger crew members who are keen to build careers in the maritime industry

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for someone who is:

Experienced. You know your way around a vessel and are confident managing day-to-day marine operations.

You understand that safety comes first — every trip, every passenger, every time.

Hands-on. You’re comfortable getting involved with maintenance, problem-solving and vessel preparation.

Customer focused. You understand that our guests aren't just coming for a boat trip — they’re coming for a potentially life-changing experience.

A mentor. You enjoy sharing your knowledge and helping younger crew develop their skills and confidence.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who fits our culture and genuinely enjoys being part of a team.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

You must hold, as a minimum:

- AMSA Master 5 / Master <24m

- Marine Engine Driver II (MED II)

Previous experience in marine tourism, whale shark operations, snorkelling tours or the Ningaloo region is highly desirable, but not essential.

2027 Season: March – October 2027
Refit / Maintenance: Generally February each year
Location: Exmouth, Western Australia

We are looking for someone who can commit to full-time availability throughout the season, with the potential for ongoing employment beyond 2027.
