Lead Security Engineer x 2
12 Month Contract + 12 Month Extension Option | Hybrid Working | ACT, VIC or QLD
We are seeking two experienced Lead Security Engineers to join a high performing Cyber Security team within a large Federal Government environment. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development and enhancement of cyber security technologies, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and strengthen enterprise security capabilities.
Working within a small but highly impactful Cyber Engineering team, you will collaborate closely with Cyber Security Operations teams, technical stakeholders, and project delivery teams to design and implement security solutions that improve organisational resilience and defensive capabilities.
About the Role
As a Lead Security Engineer, you will work under broad direction and provide technical leadership across a range of cyber security initiatives. You will contribute to the design, implementation, automation, and optimisation of security technologies while supporting the ongoing maturity of cyber operations and engineering functions.
This role offers the opportunity to influence security strategy, mentor team members, and deliver solutions that protect critical systems and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret business strategy and technical requirements to develop and enhance cyber security capabilities.
- Design, implement and optimise security technologies that strengthen organisational security posture.
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to deliver cyber security projects and initiatives.
- Develop and enhance security orchestration and automation capabilities.
- Drive continuous improvement across cyber security processes,
platforms and technologies.
- Create and maintain high quality documentation including architecture designs, operating procedures and service design documentation.
- Provide specialist cyber security advice for procurement and technology evaluation activities.
- Mentor and support junior team members where required.
- Work closely with Security Operations teams to improve security platforms and operational effectiveness.
Essential Skills & Experience
Candidates should demonstrate experience in at least three of the following areas:
- SIEM
- SOAR
- Threat Intelligence Platforms (TIP)
- Vulnerability Management
- Threat Modelling
- User and Entity Behaviour Analytics (UEBA)
- PKI Administration
- Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM)
- Cloud Native Application Protection Platforms (CNAPP)
- Enterprise Logging
Additionally, you will have:
- Robust Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience, ideally using Terraform
- Experience working within cloud environments including Azure, AWS and SaaS platforms
- Knowledge of cyber security frameworks and standards including PSPF, ISM, Essential Eight and ISO standards
- Experience applying security controls and best practices within enterprise environments
Desirable Experience
- Secure DevSecOps practices
- Kusto Query Language (KQL) and/or Search Processing Language (SPL)
- Identity and Access Management concepts including RBAC, TBAC and PBAC
- ITIL processes including Change Management, Disaster Recovery, Risk Analysis, Impact Assessment and Incident Management
Contract Details
- Position: Lead Security Engineer (2 positions)
- Contract Length: Initial 12-month contract
- Extension: Additional 12-month extension available
- Location: ACT, VIC or QLD
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid
- Office Attendance: Minimum 3 days per week onsite
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Start Date: September 2026 (anticipated)
Eligibility Requirements

- Be an Australian Citizen
- Must hold Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance
- Meet all Federal Government engagement requirements
