Hunter Multicultural Communities is a not-for-profit organisation supporting multicultural communities across the Hunter. We provide a range of community and aged care services, including preparing and delivering meals to older people in our community.
We are looking for a reliable and practical Casual Cook / Kitchen Hand to join our kitchen team.
About the role
This is a hands-on role supporting the preparation, cooking, packing, and cleaning involved in our community meals service.
Depending on the shift, duties may include:
- preparing ingredients and assisting with meal preparation
- cooking meals under the direction of senior kitchen staff
- portioning, packing, and labelling meals
- washing dishes and kitchen equipment
- maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen
- receiving and storing food and supplies
- following food safety, allergen and hygiene requirements
- assisting with catering and other kitchen activities when required
About you
We are looking for someone who is dependable, works well as part of a small team and is comfortable in a busy commercial kitchen.
You will ideally have:
- a passion for multicultural cuisine and communities
- experience working in a commercial kitchen, café,
catering, aged care services, or similar environment
- basic cooking and food preparation skills
- a good understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling
- the ability to work efficiently and follow instructions
- good organisation and attention to detail
- a respectful approach to working in a multicultural community organisation
- a food handling or food safety supervisor qualification
The successful applicant will be required to meet HMC's employment screening requirements, including a satisfactory National Police Check and Working with Children Check.
