**Volunteer People & Culture Coordinator**
Rethink Australia Foundation Ltd is a youth-led environmental organisation empowering students and schools to drive sustainability through education, technology and community action.
As Rethink Australia grows, we are seeking a People & Culture Coordinator to help create a professional, welcoming and well-organised volunteer experience. The volunteer will support practical people processes across recruitment, onboarding, engagement, documentation and volunteer development.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building effective systems and helping people contribute successfully. The position will support internal people operations but will not be responsible for legal advice, payroll or clinical wellbeing services.
**Key responsibilities**
• Help coordinate volunteer recruitment, screening and introductory conversations
• Prepare role descriptions, interview guides and candidate communications
• Support consistent, timely and respectful communication with applicants
• Coordinate volunteer onboarding, inductions and access to relevant information
• Maintain accurate and appropriately confidential volunteer records
• Develop practical templates, checklists and guidance for recruitment, onboarding and offboarding
• Help clarify volunteer responsibilities, reporting relationships and expectations
• Support regular check-ins, feedback processes and volunteer recognition
• Assist with identifying learning, development and capability needs
• Help improve volunteer engagement, inclusion, collaboration and retention
• Support the development and review of appropriate people and volunteering policies
• Help establish straightforward, scalable people processes suited to a growing volunteer-led organisation
• Work with the Operations Manager and Chief of Staff to improve internal coordination
**About you**
We are seeking a reliable and people-focused volunteer with professional,
academic or practical experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Human resources or people and culture
• Volunteer coordination or workforce administration
• Recruitment or talent acquisition
• Employee or volunteer experience
• Learning and development
• Organisational development
• HR administration, policy or people operations
Experience supporting a charity, foundation, community organisation, educational organisation, start-up or growing team will be highly regarded.
You may be an experienced HR professional, an emerging practitioner, a recent graduate or a university student with relevant capability. You should communicate clearly, exercise sound judgement, respect confidentiality and follow through on agreed tasks.
Knowledge of Australian volunteering principles, privacy, procedural fairness or people-related policies will be valued. Formal HR qualifications are welcome but not essential. The role does not provide authority to make unilateral appointments, dismiss volunteers, offer legal advice or represent Rethink Australia without approval.

The role is fully remote and flexible around professional or study commitments. An initial engagement of up to six months is anticipated, requiring approximately two to four hours per week. Some availability for scheduled online conversations will be required.

Approximately 2–4 hours per week for an initial period of up to six months. The role will include an introductory induction, regular online coordination discussions and independent work supporting recruitment, onboarding, volunteer engagement and people processes. Scheduling is flexible, although some availability for planned online conversations will be required.
** Training **
A comprehensive induction will be provided covering Rethink Australia’s mission, programs, organisational structure, current volunteer roles, recruitment approach and internal ways of working. The volunteer will receive access to relevant templates, policies, role descriptions and people-related documentation required for the engagement. Ongoing direction and feedback will be provided by Rethink Australia’s leadership team.
