Childhood Cancer Support is a Queensland not-for-profit organisation that provides free, family-style accommodation and practical support to regional families whose child is receiving cancer treatment in Brisbane.

For 50 years, we have stood alongside families during one of the most difficult times in their lives, helping them stay close to the Queensland Children’s Hospital while creating a place that feels safe, welcoming and like home.

Our accommodation sites across Brisbane support families who may be staying with us for many months while they manage treatment, separation from home, financial pressure and significant emotional stress.

We are a close-knit, purpose-driven team guided by our values of Togetherness, Compassion and Support. We are also entering an exciting new chapter through our Closeness Matters capital campaign, which will help develop the East Brisbane Accommodation Village and provide even more accommodation for families in need.

Job Summary

We are seeking a practical, reliable and solutions-focused Maintenance Officer to join our dedicated team at Childhood Cancer Support.

In this important hands-on role, you will help ensure our accommodation facilities and grounds are safe, well-maintained, functional and welcoming for families impacted by childhood cancer. You will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance, minor repairs, property presentation, preventative maintenance, contractor coordination, storage unit organisation, and support for unit changeovers and refurbishment projects.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, is highly organised, enjoys practical problem-solving, and understands the importance of working respectfully and sensitively around families during a very difficult time.

? Your Key Responsibilities

You will:

- Maintain accommodation facilities and grounds to a safe, clean and welcoming standard.

- Undertake general maintenance, minor repairs and property presentation tasks.

- Conduct regular inspections and identify maintenance, safety or presentation issues early.





- Coordinate contractors, trades and suppliers in line with organisational approval processes.

- Support unit changeovers to ensure accommodation is ready for incoming families.

- Assist with moving furniture, whitegoods, appliances, linen and household items between our properties and storage units.

- Manage the organisation and practical use of our storage units, including furniture, appliances and donated or purchased stock.

- Support preventative maintenance, servicing and compliance requirements.

- Supervise maintenance volunteers, gardening volunteers and corporate volunteer groups undertaking approved activities.

- Maintain accurate records, receipts, photographs, quotes and maintenance documentation.

? What You Bring

- Demonstrated experience in building, property, facilities, maintenance, trade support or a similar practical maintenance role.

- Sound hands-on maintenance skills and the ability to know when a licensed trade or specialist contractor is required.

- Strong planning, prioritisation, organisation and problem-solving skills.

- A practical, respectful and qualified approach to supervising volunteers, contractors and suppliers.

- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work sensitively around families, children, staff and volunteers.

- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email and maintain maintenance or asset records.

- A current Australian driver’s licence and ability to travel between our various accommodation sites. A work vehicle is available for use during working hours.

- The ability to undertake the physical requirements of the role, including safe manual handling, moving equipment and furniture,



using hand tools where appropriate.

- A commitment to confidentiality, child safety, workplace health and safety, teamwork and organisational values.

- A trade qualification, Construction White Card, First Aid Certificate, experience in accommodation facilities maintenance or not-for-profit settings, and experience managing storage areas and stock movements will be highly regarded.

- It is a condition of employment at all employees hold a valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check) and undergo Child Safe training (these can be arranged upon employment of successful candidate).
