District Council of Orroroo Carrieton is a small but proud rural council dedicated to building a connected and sustainable community. The mission is easy yet powerful: deliver high-quality services, foster local growth, and protect the unique character of the region for generations to come.
Integrity, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to the people Council serves - because every decision made directly impacts neighbours, friends, and families.
Council is located in the upper north of South Australia, approximately 3 hours by road north of Adelaide, at the base of the Flinders Ranges. The area retains much of its 1880’s charm and is a popular tourism destination, with the two major towns being Orroroo and Carrieton, along with the smaller historical locations of Eurelia, Black Rock, Morchard, Yatina, Pekina, Johnburgh and Belton.
This important maintenance position contributes to the Orroroo Carrieton community through the ongoing care, maintenance and construction of Council’s infrastructure.
Reporting to the Coordinator Works and Engineering Services and Supervisor Works and Engineering Services, key responsibilities will include:
- Operating the Orroroo Waste Transfer Station in accordance with the Operations Management Plan and EPA Licence requirements on Sundays from 10.00am to 2.00pm
- Charging customers in accordance with the declared Fees and process payments utilising the Point of Sale and EFTPOS facility
- Assisting with the operations of the Orroroo Swimming Pool plant room, buildings,
facilities and grounds maintenance during the open and closure seasons
- Assisting in the operations and maintenance of the Orroroo Community Wastewater Management System and Carrieton Water Supply system
- Carrying out the maintenance of township areas, including parks and gardens, community facilities, sporting facilities and ovals, swimming pools, and irrigation systems, and playgrounds to agreed standards and timeframes
- Assisting with the maintenance of Council Infrastructure (i.e. signage, footpaths, unsealed and sealed roads, cemeteries, and airports) to agreed standards and timeframes
- Assisting with seasonal spraying and slashing of reserves, cemeteries, footpaths and streets and roadsides as required
- Assisting with the setup and packing up of community events and road closures as directed
- Performing other duties as directed and required within the department areas.
We are seeking a reliable, "can do" attitude, who is proactive and takes an interest and pride in the local towns and communities, and who is ideally only seeking part time work.
A current drivers licence will be essential, and part-time days of work must be Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays, with potential for increased hours as required.
This position will also be included in out of hours Duty Officer Roster.
