About the Role
At Canberra Grammar School, Primary teaching is about far more than delivering a curriculum. It is about knowing each child, nurturing their confidence and creating the foundations from which a lifelong love of learning can grow.
We invite expressions of interest from exceptional Primary School teachers seeking ongoing or fixed-term opportunities commencing in ****. As a Primary School Teacher at CGS, you will be a generalist educator and a central figure in each child's learning journey.
Teaching from the Early Years to Year 6, you will bring learning to life through the IB Primary Years Programme, the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Curriculum. You will build strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while inspiring inquiry, creativity, independence and courageous thinking.
You will also serve as the pastoral heart of your classroom—creating a safe and inclusive environment, developing meaningful relationships with families and ensuring every child feels known, supported and challenged to achieve their potential.
As part of our Primary School community, you will:
Design engaging, purposeful and appropriately challenging learning experiences.
Deliver explicit, evidence-informed teaching in literacy and numeracy.
Use student data and professional judgement to respond to individual learning needs.
Encourage curiosity, creativity and meaningful inquiry.
Support the wellbeing, character and holistic development of every child.
Build positive and trusted partnerships with families.
Contribute enthusiastically to the co-curricular, outdoor education, service and community life of the School.
Collaborate with talented colleagues who are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

About You
You are an engaging and accomplished educator who brings intellectual curiosity, energy and genuine care to the classroom. You are excited by the opportunity to challenge students' thinking,



create space for respectful dialogue and bring complex ideas to life.
As a teacher, the role-holder is expected to demonstrate:
Essential
Expert knowledge of teaching, learning and the primary curriculum, including the explicit teaching of early literacy and numeracy
IB PYP experience or a strong understanding of inquiry pedagogy
Demonstrated capacity to use data-informed practice to advance every child's learning
A strong understanding of the holistic development and wellbeing of children, and of classroom management
A genuine commitment to pastoral care, co-curricular engagement and the full life of the School
Excellent written and spoken English, effective interpersonal communication and strong technological literacy

Desirable
Experience teaching across the range of primary year levels, from the early years to Year 6
Experience contributing to co-curricular, outdoor education or service programmes
A higher degree or scholarship in education or a related field
Experience of enrichment or extension programmes in the primary years

Personal Attributes
A genuine love of teaching young children and the ability to inspire curiosity, confidence and a love of learning
Dedication to the wellbeing, formation and growth of every child
A commitment to inclusive excellence, with the conviction that every child can grow
High professional standards, warmth, sound judgement and a collaborative, reflective disposition

All teacher at CGS are required to have:
A relevant tertiary degree and teaching qualification
Hold or willing to obtain HLTAID009 (CPR) & HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting
Hold or willing to complete the Keeping Children and Young People Secure, ACT Government training
Hold or willing to complete the National Child Safety Training (Foundation Level) – Geccko
An ACT teacher's registration through the ACT TQI (ELC to Year 6 or Kindergarten to Year 6)
