Registered Nurse – School Health Centre
Forbes, NSW | Full-Time
Looking for a nursing role where you can make a genuine difference every day?
If you're a Registered Nurse looking for a change from the traditional hospital or clinical environment, this is an opportunity to bring your nursing skills into a supportive school community where relationships, wellbeing and preventative care are just as important as clinical expertise.
Our client is a well-established co-educational Catholic secondary school in regional NSW, supporting students across Years 7-12, including a significant boarding community.
The school has a strong focus on student wellbeing, pastoral care and developing the whole person, creating an environment where staff have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students and become an important part of their support network.
Why consider this opportunity?
This is much more than a traditional school nursing position.
You'll be part of an established Health Centre team, providing care to students and staff while working closely with teachers, counsellors, boarding staff, families and external healthcare professionals.
You'll have the opportunity to:
Build genuine, long-term relationships with students
Provide care in a supportive and community-focused environment
Work across both day-school and boarding environments
Support preventative health and wellbeing initiatives
Provide health education to students
Be a trusted point of contact for young people when they need support
Work alongside an experienced nursing team
Enjoy a varied role where every day is different
Contribute to a strong pastoral care and wellbeing culture
Access career development opportunities
Enjoy the lifestyle and community of Forbes, NSW
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Nurse and working closely with College leadership, you'll help ensure the Health Centre operates safely, efficiently and provides a high standard of care.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing nursing and first aid care to students and staff
Supporting boarding students with their health needs, including on-call requirements where necessary
Managing student medical histories and health alerts
Supporting students with conditions including asthma, diabetes, allergies and other ongoing health requirements
Medication management and administration in accordance with policy
Responding to illness, injury and medical emergencies
Maintaining accurate and confidential medical records
Liaising with parents, boarding staff, medical practitioners and external health services
Coordinating medical appointments and supporting student transport when required
Supporting child safeguarding and mandatory reporting obligations
Maintaining first aid equipment and medical supplies
Supporting immunisation and preventative health programs
Developing and delivering age-appropriate health education programs
Supporting staff first aid training
Maintaining Health Centre policies, procedures and compliance requirements
Recording health interactions and incidents through relevant school systems
The person we're looking for
We're looking for a Registered Nurse who combines strong clinical skills with warmth, empathy and maturity.
You'll ideally have:
Bachelor of Nursing
Current AHPRA registration
Current NSW Working with Children Check
Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational and administrative skills
Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping capability
The ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
A compassionate and student-focused approach
The ability to work independently and as part of a team
A genuine interest in supporting young people
A commitment to ongoing professional development
Mental Health First Aid certification and experience working with children or young people would be highly regarded.
A role with real purpose
For many students, particularly those living away from home in boarding, the school nurse becomes more than someone they see when they're sick or injured.
You can become a familiar and trusted person who provides reassurance, practical support and a calm presence when students need it most.
If you're a Nurse who enjoys people as much as clinical care, this could be a refreshing next step in your career.
