The Opportunity
You'll be responsible for developing and enhancing an internal Underwriter Portal and a suite of supporting applications that are transforming the way underwriters & risk managers access and use information. You'll also play a key role in consolidating data from multiple legacy platforms into a modern global data hub, enabling new digital capabilities across the organisation. Working alongside product owners, business stakeholders and fellow engineers, you'll help design scalable, contemporary solutions that have a direct impact on the business.
What You'll Be Doing
Designing and developing enterprise Java applications
Building scalable microservices using Spring Boot
Developing modern front-end functionality using Angular (React also considered)
Building event-driven solutions with Kafka
Deploying applications into Kubernetes environments
Integrating data from multiple enterprise platforms




Collaborating directly with underwriting teams to understand business workflows
Influencing technical design and architectural decisions
Mentoring developers and promoting engineering best practice
Skills You'll Bring
Extensive commercial Java development experience
Robust Spring Boot and microservices expertise
Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures
Kubernetes experience
Angular or React experience
Agentic AI experience (Anthropic/Claude Preferred)
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience mentoring developers or leading technical initiatives
A passion for delivering high-quality, maintainable software
