The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is Tasmania's largest tertiary referral hospital and the statewide centre for Neurology, Stroke, Neurosurgery, and Vascular Surgery services. As an accredited provider of Endovascular Clot Retrieval (ECR), RHH delivers specialised stroke and neurological care to patients across Tasmania. Working in partnership with the Launceston General Hospital and North West Regional Hospital Stroke Units, RHH provides advanced interventions and ongoing management for patients requiring complex neurological assessment and treatment.
As Tasmania's leading teaching and research hospital, RHH maintains strong partnerships with the University of Tasmania and other educational institutions, supporting excellence in clinical care, education, research, and innovation.
The Role
Ward 7A is embarking on an exciting transformation from a Medical Subspecialties Unit to a dedicated Neurology and Stroke Unit.



This development includes the establishment of an initial two-bed Close Observation Unit to support patients requiring enhanced neurological monitoring following Code Stroke activations, thrombolysis, Endovascular Clot Retrieval (ECR), and other acute neurological presentations. Service expansion to a four-bed Close Observation Unit is planned as the model matures.
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to lead this significant service transition. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of neurological and stroke care at RHH while fostering a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will demonstrate robust leadership and change management capabilities, with the ability to engage and support staff through both service redesign and broader organisational initiatives, including ongoing workforce, rostering, and payroll system changes. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary stakeholders, the NUM will play a key role in developing workforce capability, embedding specialist clinical practice, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.
