A Technical Specialist I (TS1) is an entry-level technical role supporting Adacel customers and simulation projects in Australia, primarily for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Airservices Australia. Reporting to the Lead Technical Specialist, the TS1 assists with customer support, system installation, integration testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, networking, and Windows/Linux operating systems. The role includes site visits, scheduled maintenance and upgrade activities, response to service requests, and hands‐on support for Technical Specialist II/III coworkers and other project team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Receives and responds to customer support requests through Adacel support channels.
Follows standardised support and escalation procedures to assist customers with technical issues.
Uses documented hardware, software, operating system, and network troubleshooting procedures to identify and isolate faults.
Repairs, replaces, configures, and tests computer hardware under the guidance of more senior Technical Specialists.
Ensures replacement hardware is thoroughly tested and verified before deployment to a customer system.
Works with Logistics and Support personnel to coordinate the prompt delivery of replacement hardware and equipment to customers.
Follows up on replacement hardware and service activities to confirm that equipment is installed and operating correctly.
Performs and assists with standardised system installations, technical refreshes, and customer‐site deployment activities.
Performs basic configuration and integration tasks on standardised air traffic control simulation systems.
Performs system maintenance, software upgrades, and verification testing during scheduled customer visits.
Travels to customer sites to assist with service requests, installations, maintenance, and project activities.
Assists with the maintenance of simulation testbeds, demonstration systems, documentation, and equipment used for integration and support.




Performs other duties and project tasks as assigned by the Lead Technical Specialist or Systems Engineering Manager.

Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related technical field. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Hands-on experience with computers, hardware, networking, or system configuration gained through university coursework, laboratories, internships, employment, or personal technical projects.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11 installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems and applications; exposure to RHEL-based distributions and/or Ubuntu is beneficial.
Basic computer hardware troubleshooting skills, including memory, storage, graphics, peripheral, audio, and network‐related faults.
Basic understanding of Ethernet networking and common concepts such as TCP/IP, IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, and network connectivity troubleshooting.
Ability to follow documented installation, test, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures and accurately record results.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Robust customer-service orientation and the ability to communicate professionally with customers and coworkers.
Good interpersonal, time-management, prioritisation, and problem‐solving skills.
Ability and willingness to learn quickly, accept technical guidance, and develop toward independent field and systems‐integration work.




Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with increasing independence as technical skills develop.
Internship, laboratory, help desk, field service, or system‐deployment experience involving computers, networks, audio‐visual equipment, or technical systems.
Experience or academic exposure to simulation, aviation, air traffic control, defence training, or other real‐time technical systems.
A+, Network+, Linux+, AWS, Microsoft, Cisco, or similar entry‐level technical certification(s).
Knowledge of scripting or automation using Bash, Python, PowerShell, Batch, or similar tools.
Experience with virtual machines, system integration, technical documentation, or structured software/hardware testing.
Other Qualifications:
Ability to comply with Adacel workplace, safety, security, and customer‐site policies.
Ability to pass required Adacel background screening and customer site‐access checks.
Ability to obtain and maintain any government or customer security clearance required for assigned projects.
Ability to travel throughout Australia and internationally as required.
Must hold, or be able to obtain, a valid passport.
Must be an Australian citizen.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to use simple hand tools.
Frequent lifting - up to approximately 23 kg.
Repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movement.
Full‐time Melbourne‐based role working in office, laboratory/testbed, and customer‐site environments.
Regular work with computer, networking, audio‐visual, and simulation hardware.
Airline and car travel within Australia and occasional international travel may be required.
Typical physical activity includes sitting, bending, crouching, standing, walking, and lifting.
