We're partnering with a highly regarded government-affiliated organisation to find an experienced Archivist, who is passionate about preserving history, enabling discovery, and ensuring important stories remain accessible for generations to come.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a leadership role where you'll combine strategic thinking with hands-on archival expertise. You'll oversee significant archival collections, lead projects that enhance access and preservation, and work closely with stakeholders across a complex and dynamic organisation.
12 months contract | Sydney location | Fulltime role | up to $85 per hour plus super

The Chance
You'll play a pivotal role in the stewardship of significant institutional archives, ensuring collections are managed, preserved, and made accessible in line with industry best practice.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading archival projects from planning through to delivery.
Overseeing the appraisal, accessioning, arrangement, description,



and management of archival records and collections.
Driving best practice in archival access, preservation, digitisation, and long-term collection care.
Supporting research enquiries and facilitating access to archival material for a diverse range of users.
Developing and improving archival policies, procedures, and frameworks.
Mentoring and supporting archival staff while coordinating workloads and priorities.
Contributing to initiatives that enhance the visibility, accessibility, and long-term sustainability of archival collections.
About You
We're looking for an experienced archives professional who brings both technical expertise and a collaborative leadership style.
You will ideally have:
Relevant Tertiary Qualificaitons
Proven experience managing institutional archives or significant archival collections.
Experience leading projects, improving processes, and managing competing priorities.
A proactive, solutions-focused approach and a genuine passion for archives and cultural heritage.
