Melbourne

Founded in December ****, Twomey Dispute Lawyers is a leading specialist litigation law firm with offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Gold Coast. Our vision is straightforward: be five steps ahead. Always. In everything we do — across legal matters, across workplace wellness, and in our relentless pursuit of excellence.
We pride ourselves on being far from a traditional law firm. While suits are required in court, in the office we opt for casual wear, including our own branded merch lines. We are high performers working in a fast-paced environment, but we create genuine work-life balance with an emphasis on positive mental health — because a great team culture isn't just a nice-to-have, it's guaranteed.
Lead Boldly —
Not afraid to be different, we lead with confidence and courageousness. We think boldly, outside the box, and act with power. We are leaders to our clients, each other, and to the legal industry.
Operate Humbly —
We run things with a human approach — relatable, down-to‐earth and empathetic. Our people are what make Twomey great, and their realness and authenticity is what brings our clients and talent to us.
Move Quickly —
We move with pace, but never drop the ball. Efficiently navigating cases with speed and meticulous attention to detail, we are always ready to pick up our clients' work and make sure we get the best outcomes in a shorter timeframe.
Win Strategically —
Our high‐performing team and extensive experience is what arms us to win. Our gameplay is strategic and backed with knowledge. We know when to divert or go full steam, always calculating our next move and being five steps ahead.
The Role
Based in our Melbourne office,

we have a full‐time opportunity available to join the Twomey team in our growing litigation practice. Working Monday to Friday, this role is fast‐paced and offers an exciting opportunity for a career‐minded legal professional to advance in a supportive, high‐performing environment.
We are seeking a motivated lawyer with 2 to 4 years' post‐admission experience in commercial litigation — someone who is ready to take genuine ownership of matters and grow into a role with real responsibility.
You will take on the day‐to‐day conduct of matters under the supervision of a partner, building on strong foundational skills to run a substantial portion of the work on increasingly complex matters, working alongside senior lawyers and with the support of junior team members. You will be expected to exercise initiative in progressing matters, contribute to discussions around strategy, and continue developing your commercial awareness and judgement. As your skills develop, so does your role — we recognise and reward progress as it happens, rather than making you wait years for it.
What You'll Be Doing
Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda of findings
Drafting substantive pleadings, affidavits, submissions, and correspondence
Reviewing documents for discovery and managing discovery processes
Preparing evidence in accordance with relevant rules
Briefing and instructing Counsel

Preparing Court documents for proceedings filed in Courts and Tribunals across Victoria, and other jurisdictions, including the Federal jurisdiction
Taking instructions from and managing client communication, providing timely updates and advice
Preparing fee estimates and ensuring regular billing and trust compliance
Preparing for trial, hearings and mediations
Delegating effectively to junior team members and contributing to their development
Managing file conduct including diarising key dates, limitation periods, and maintaining accurate file notes and records
About You
You are admitted to practice in Victoria with a current practising certificate and bring 2 to 4 years' post‐admission experience in commercial litigation. Beyond the technical, you are someone who genuinely wants to excel as a litigation lawyer and whose values align with ours.
You will also bring:
Strong procedural knowledge and drafting skills
Sound judgement and developing commercial awareness
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the confidence to appear in Court and before Tribunals
A high level of attention to detail and strong literacy and numeracy skills
Empathy, trustworthiness, and discretion in handling confidential information
A collaborative approach and the ability to foster positive relationships with clients, colleagues, and opponents
Strong initiative, problem‐solving skills, and accountability
Excellent time management and the ability to balance multiple matters efficiently
Proficient technical skills including in MS Office; experience in Actionstep and NetDocuments is advantageous but not essential
