About the Company
A well-established, privately owned business with a strong reputation in its sector. The organisation operates in manufacturing/production, supplying products to the building and construction industry. With continued growth and a system transformation underway, this is a business entering an exciting next phase.
About the Role
This is a costing-led commercial finance role, not a traditional financial accounting position. The business is looking for someone who can build genuine trust in the numbers - giving leadership, sales and production accurate, real-time visibility of margin by job, product line and customer. You'll take ownership of day-to-day finance operations, including partnering with the ELT and Operations, while managing a small team (accounts payable, accounts receivable and accounts admin).
Duties
Own product and job costing across a fabrication/production workplace - standard cost setting, BOM costing, labour and overhead absorption rates
Track and report cost variances (material, labour, overhead) between standard and actual, working with operations to identify root causes
Maintain inventory and WIP valuation - raw material, offcuts/scrap and finished goods - to ensure accurate COGS
Run periodic stocktakes and reconcile physical to book, investigating discrepancies
Analyse job/project profitability against quoted cost, feeding insights back into quoting and pricing
Build costing models and margin reporting by product line, job and customer
Partner with production and estimating to keep material rates,
labour rates and overhead allocations current
Run the monthly close (journals, accruals, reconciliations, variance commentary) and deliver clean numbers into group consolidation
Prepare BAS/IAS and maintain debtor/creditor ledger integrity and cash flow forecasting
Support year-end audit and statutory reporting alongside the group finance function
Own costing within the ERP system and partner with the CFO on system and process improvement
Skills & Experience
CA, CPA or CIMA/CMA qualified - or equivalent qualified-by-experience with a strong costing track record
4+ years in a costing or commercial finance role within manufacturing or fabrication (job costing or process costing)
Strong cost accounting fundamentals: standard costing, variance analysis, BOM/routing, labour and overhead absorption, inventory/WIP valuation
Comfortable owning a monthly close and preparing BAS/IAS
Advanced Excel - complex formulas and reconciliation at scale
Confident partnering directly with production and estimating teams, and translating numbers for non-finance stakeholders
Right to work in Australia
Desirable: ERP/MRP costing module experience, multi-entity or group consolidation exposure, prior involvement in an ERP implementation or system transition
Culture
You'll join a business that prides itself on quality and a hands-on, team-first culture. Several senior leaders across the group have grown internally, and this role sits close to leadership with genuine scope to shape how costing and margin reporting is done.
Benefits
Direct exposure to the CFO and senior leadership, with a clear runway to take on more strategic scope over time
Genuine variety - costing, commercial analysis, close, and team leadership
Involvement in a live ERP transition, a solid addition to your technical toolkit
Team leadership from day one
Stable, growing, privately held business with a long-term outlook
