Senior Medical Scientist - Microbial Serology

About the Role:
Grade 3 Medical Scientist in Serology
Part of leadership team in Microbiology
Full time ongoing
The Senior Medical Scientist-Microbial Serology Laboratory is responsible for the day to day supervision and management of the laboratory under the direction of the Principal Scientist Microbiology.
What You'll Achieve:
Ensure delivery of accurate and timely results
Monitor and maintain scientific standards in accordance with NATA and NPAAC
Encourage and lead by example, staff participation in professional development
Identify areas for improvement and develop implementation
Foster a collaborative team environment with respect for other members of the team to achieve service goals
Classification for this postion will range from Grade 3 Year 1- Grade 3 Year 4 (RY9-RZ3).
Your Skills and Experience:




Hold a Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science or equivalent, where equivalent includes a degree awarded by an overseas tertiary instituion which is recognised by the Federal Department of Education and Training
Qualify for professional scientist membership of Australian Institute of Medical Scientistsor the Australian Society for Microbiology
Minimum 8 years postgraduate experience working in Microbial Serology
Demonstrate experience and expertise in the supervision of a Microbial Serology laboratory
Knowledge and experience in paediatric and/or women's health diagnostic serology laboratory is desirable
Experience in Bacteriology is desirable
About the Department:
The Microbiology Laboratories, within the Department of Laboratory Services, provide comprehensive, high quality diagnostic microbiological services to both the Royal Children's and the Royal Women's Hospital. The Microbiology Laboratories consist of bacteriology, serology and molecular microbiology employing more than 40 staff.

Victorian Department of Health has endorsed the initiative to restructure existing public pathology by bringing together laboratories into pathology networks operating under a lead health service.
Pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre,



the Royal Women's Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital will transition to a single pathology service. This creates an exciting opportunity to strengthen the scope, scale and reach of pathology services across the Parkville precinct to benefitall Victorians.
This role will be part of the new centre of excellence that will be led by Melbourne Health
