Role
Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.




Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
The Teaching & Learning Coordinator provides leadership of a learning area, ensuring high-quality curriculum implementation, effective team leadership and continuous improvement in teaching and learning. The role leads the implementation of college priorities within the learning area and supports consistent, high-quality learning experiences that promote student achievement and successful completion.
The role leads and supports staff within the learning area, fostering a collaborative culture focused on professional growth, accountability and continuous improvement. The role provides curriculum leadership, supports staff performance and development and ensures learning area practices align with college expectations, VCAA requirements and contemporary evidence-informed practice.
As a member of the Curriculum Leadership Team, the role contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of teaching and learning priorities across the college. The role works collaboratively with college leaders, Instructional Practice Leaders and Bendigo Education Plan partners to strengthen curriculum quality, instructional consistency and student preparedness for senior secondary education.
Success is reflected through strong learning area leadership, effective curriculum implementation, staff capability and improved student learning outcomes.

Teaching allotment:
The role includes a teaching load, currently equivalent to three classes (630 minutes per week), and a role as an Advisor for approximately 16 students.
College events:
This role includes participation in parent and student information evenings, Open Days and other college-wide events, some of which may occur outside normal school hours.
