About the role
Walkinshaw Group is a leader in performance engineering, advanced manufacturing, and product development across automotive, motorsport, and emerging mobility sectors. With a proud history of innovation and quality, we deliver world‐class engineering solutions for global OEMs and performance brands. Our Dandenong South facility is home to state‐of‐the‐art engineering capability, a highly skilled team, and a culture that values creativity, collaboration, and technical excellence.
We are seeking a talented
Automotive Product BOM (Bill of Materials) Analyst
to join our growing Engineering team. You will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and validating accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) that define vehicle components, assemblies, and configurations throughout the product lifecycle. You will ensure product data is complete, accurate, and aligned across Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Quality, Production, and Service.
Working at the intersection of engineering design, product lifecycle management, and manufacturing, the BOM Analyst translates engineering designs and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) into structured product data while maintaining configuration integrity within PLM and ERP systems. The role supports new vehicle programs, engineering changes, and ongoing production by ensuring BOM accuracy, part traceability, production readiness, and effective configuration control.
Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a sound understanding of automotive product structures, engineering change management, and product lifecycle management processes.
What you'll be doing:
BOM Creation, Maintenance & Validation
Create, maintain, and validate Engineering and Manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOMs) for vehicle components, assemblies, and configurations
Ensure BOMs accurately reflect engineering drawings, specifications, design intent, part revisions, and configuration rules
Maintain part and assembly lifecycle status based on engineering approvals, SMT decisions, and running change activities
Perform BOM validation to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards
Review and implement Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) within agreed timeframes
Assess the impact of engineering changes on BOMs, manufacturing, purchasing, supply chain, service, and cost
Collaborate with Engineering and Program teams to ensure accurate and timely implementation of product changes
PLM/ERP System Administration
Create and maintain part master data, product structures, and BOMs within PLM and ERP systems (e.g., Infor LN and Teamcenter)
Ensure consistency of part numbers, descriptions, revisions, effectivity, and sourcing information across enterprise systems
Investigate and resolve BOM and system data discrepancies in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Quality, Production, Logistics, and Program Management to maintain accurate product data
Provide BOM support for manufacturing, prototype builds, production issues, and model year updates
Communicate engineering changes and BOM updates to stakeholders to support successful program delivery
Product Configuration & Variant Management
Maintain vehicle configurations, options, and variant‐specific BOM structures
Ensure the BOM correctly reflects optional equipment, regulatory‐required components, and market‐specific content
Support complexity management initiatives to reduce part proliferation and simplify ordering
Data Integrity & Quality Control
Perform routine audits to ensure BOM accuracy, completeness, and compliance with engineering standards
Identify, investigate, and resolve data inconsistencies, duplicate records, and missing information
Support continuous improvement initiatives through BOM analysis, data quality improvements, and process optimisation
Program Launch Support
Develop and maintain BOM structures throughout the product development lifecycle, from prototype to production
Support program reviews, build events, BOM freeze milestones, and pre‐production validation activities
Coordinate with Manufacturing and Supply Chain to ensure BOM readiness for Start of Production (SOP)
Reporting & Documentation
Generate reports relating to BOM status, engineering changes, part usage, cost impacts, and configuration data
Maintain BOM procedures, work instructions, and data governance documentation
Provide accurate product data and reporting to support business and program decision‐making
What we're looking for:
You'll be successful in this role if you bring:
Business, Admin, Technical or Engineering qualification
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline
At least 3 years' experience in the automotive industry
Experience working with PLM and ERP systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Infor LN, SAP, or similar)
Strong understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM) management, Engineering Change Management (ECN), product configuration, and automotive manufacturing processes
Advanced analytical, problem‐solving, and communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
What we offer
Work on cutting‐edge automotive and engineering programs
Be part of a respected Australian engineering organisation with a rich motorsport and performance heritage.
Market-competitive salary and career development pathways
A supportive team culture that values innovation and craftsmanship
