Position Information
Melville High School is located on Dunghutti land in the Macleay Valley serving approximately 400 students from South West Rocks to Crescent Head with a student Aboriginal population of over 30%.
It is a comprehensive, co-educational school, with a strong focus on student growth and achievement, quality teaching, restorative practices and wellbeing.
Opportunities are provided in academic, sporting, cultural, creative and technological learning areas and programs to develop social and employment skills are a focus.
In **** Melville High School joined the Connected Communities Strategy which aims to improve outcomes for Aboriginal students and therefore all students.
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teachand/or experiencein teaching students with a range of disabilities and complex needs, including Autism and behaviour difficulties, with proven ability to implement effective strategies to promote student engagement, wellbeing,



and positive behaviour, including management of challenging behaviours and de-escalation of crisis situations.
Demonstrated capacity to differentiate, deliver, and assess the 7–12 curriculum and Life Skills curriculum to engage students with special needs, including Autism and behaviour difficulties, through personalised and evidence-based teaching and assessment practices.
Well-developed ability to develop and deliver personalised learning and support plans (PLaSPs) that address the social, emotional, behavioural, and academic needs of students with Autism and behaviour difficulties, with capacity to collaborate with families, staff, and external agencies for consistent support.
Proven capacity to build and contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture, to integrate special education into whole-school programs, and to remain informed of current research and best practice in the field.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
