Strategic Environment and Planning team is newly formed
and has a
national focus
. It works across regions supporting our established advisory businesses in North and West and South-East Australia. Its goal is to work with Sequana Group's existing clients, establish new client relationships, and generate new business.
Working with our Associate Director, Environment and Planning and the Associate Director, Water and Environment Advisory
, the role includes helping to
build our environmental and planning capability across the business to establish a more complete project planning and delivery offering
within Sequana Group.

What you do
Work collaboratively with the Director, Strategic Environment and Planning, Associate Directors and other senior team members to deliver high-quality environmental and planning outcomes across Sequana's water and energy projects.
Support Sequana's Water and Energy consultancy teams in developing and implementing environmental and planning approvals strategies that facilitate successful project development and delivery.
Lead and contribute to environmental impact assessments, statutory planning approvals, environmental approvals and associated technical documentation for complex infrastructure projects.
Manage environmental and planning approval projects and workstreams from concept through to delivery, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and ensuring outcomes are delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard.
Provide high-quality technical and strategic advice to clients and internal project teams on environmental and planning approval pathways, risks, requirements and opportunities.
Prepare, review and coordinate environmental assessments, planning reports, approval applications, technical documentation and other project deliverables.
Interpret and apply relevant
Commonwealth and Victorian environmental and planning legislation

policy and regulatory frameworks to develop practical, project-focused solutions.
Engage and build effective working relationships with clients, government agencies, water utilities, technical specialists, First Nations stakeholders, community representatives and other project stakeholders.
Support client engagement and business development activities, including contributing to proposals, tenders, scopes of work and fee estimates.
Identify environmental and planning risks early and work collaboratively with project teams to develop practical mitigation and management strategies.
Support and mentor junior environmental and planning professionals, sharing technical knowledge and contributing to the continued development of the Strategic Environment and Planning team.
Maintain current knowledge of environmental and planning legislation, policy, regulatory developments and industry best practice.
Model high standards of professionalism, ethics, integrity and collaboration across all activities.
Who you are
Candidates should possess:
Tertiary qualifications in environmental planning, environmental science, environmental engineering or a related discipline with relevant professional experience in statutory environmental and planning approvals and environmental impact assessment.
Demonstrated experience delivering environmental and planning approvals for complex infrastructure projects, ideally within the
water and/or energy sectors
and with experience in South East Australia.
Strong technical capability in
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Victorian and Commonwealth statutory planning and environmental approval frameworks
. Experience working within other Australian jurisdictions would be advantageous but is not essential.
Demonstrated experience managing environmental and planning projects or significant workstreams, including coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes and budgets.
Strong capability in preparing and reviewing environmental assessments, planning reports, approval applications and other technical documentation.
Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, policy and regulatory requirements and translate them into practical, project-focused advice that appropriately balances compliance,



risk and delivery objectives.
Experience engaging with government agencies, water utilities, First Nations stakeholders, community groups, technical specialists and other project stakeholders.
Robust client relationship and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to provide clear, considered technical advice and facilitate discussions on complex environmental and planning matters.
Experience contributing to proposals, tenders, scopes and fee estimates, with an understanding of the commercial requirements associated with consulting project delivery.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex environmental and planning matters clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
A collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to support and mentor less experienced team members while contributing positively to a high-performing multidisciplinary team.
