Genesis Legal Partners – Legal Graduate Training Program
Genesis Legal Partners – Legal Graduate Training Program
Your PLT may only take 15 days. Your development shouldn't.
We don't just want you to complete your PLT. We want to help you become a solicitor.
The transition from law school to legal practice can be challenging.
A graduate can complete their degree and practical legal training while having had relatively limited exposure to the day-to-day realities of working in a law firm.
At
Genesis Legal Partners
, we believe there should be a better pathway.
We are looking for motivated law graduates who want to develop genuine practical experience, build confidence and learn what it takes to become a capable solicitor.
Our approach is simple:
Give you the chance. Train you properly. Give you increasing responsibility. Assess your development. And, for the right person, build a long-term career together.
This is more than a PLT placement.
It is a
career pathway.
THE PATHWAY
PLT Placement
6-Month Paid Graduate Legal Training Program
Ongoing Training & Development
Full-Time Graduate / Junior Solicitor
Long-Term Career Development
Your PLT placement is the starting point.
For candidates who demonstrate the right
ability, attitude, work ethic and cultural fit
, there is an opportunity to continue into our
6-month paid Graduate Legal Training Program
.
The program is designed to bridge the gap between
law school and real legal practice
, while giving both you and the firm the opportunity to determine whether there is a long‐term fit.
Candidates who successfully demonstrate the required standard throughout the program may be offered a
full-time Graduate / Junior Solicitor position
.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
We don't expect you to arrive as an experienced solicitor.
That's what we're here to help you become.
Throughout the program, you will receive practical training, supervision and regular feedback while progressively developing your ability to:
Conduct legal research and analyse legal issues
Draft professional correspondence and legal documents
Communicate effectively with clients
Manage legal files and matters
Understand legal processes and procedures
Manage competing deadlines and priorities
Identify issues and develop practical solutions
Exercise professional judgment
Work independently while knowing when to seek guidance
Take increasing responsibility for client matters
Understand how a professional legal practice operates
As your skills and confidence develop, so will your level of responsibility.
AREAS OF PRACTICE
Depending on your interests, capabilities and the needs of the firm, you may gain practical exposure to:
Family Law
Property & Conveyancing
Commercial & Corporate Law
Tax Law
Legal research and analysis
Drafting contracts, correspondence and legal documents
Client communication and meetings
Property transactions and settlements
Matter and file management
Liaising with clients, solicitors, agents and other professionals
You will have the opportunity to experience how legal work is actually performed — not simply observe from the sidelines.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are not necessarily looking for the candidate with the longest resume.
We are looking for someone worth investing in.
You may be a strong fit if you are:
Intelligent, analytical and curious
A strong written and verbal communicator
Highly organised and attentive to detail
Reliable and punctual
Professional and confident when dealing with people
Proactive rather than waiting to be told what to do
Comfortable managing competing priorities
Willing to take responsibility for your work
Receptive to feedback and committed to improving
Prepared to work hard and continually develop
Serious about building a long‐term career in legal practice
Previous legal experience is beneficial, but we place significant value on attitude, work ethic, potential and the ability to learn.
We can teach you the practical aspects of legal practice.
We cannot teach you to care about the quality of your work.
THIS OPPORTUNITY IS NOT FOR EVERYONE
If your primary objective is simply to complete your minimum PLT requirements and move on, this probably isn't the opportunity for you.
We are looking for people who want to:
Learn. Improve. Take responsibility. Build a career.
The program involves genuine work, increasing expectations, regular feedback and accountability.
We would rather invest our time in developing one excellent future solicitor than simply fill a PLT placement.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
Professionalism
Treat clients, colleagues and other professionals with respect and maintain a high professional standard.
Accountability
Take ownership of your work, your deadlines and your mistakes.
Initiative
Don't simply wait for instructions. Learn to identify what needs to be done and take appropriate action.
Attention to Detail
Legal work requires accuracy. Small mistakes can have significant consequences.
Responsiveness to Feedback
You will receive feedback throughout the program. We expect you to listen, learn and apply it.
Work Ethic
We are investing significant time and resources into your development. We expect you to invest in yourself as well.
A REAL TRAINING PROGRAM
This is not an arrangement where you are simply given a desk and expected to work things out yourself.
You will receive structured training, supervision and ongoing feedback, with your responsibilities increasing as your capability develops.
The objective is to progressively move you from:
Learning → Assisting → Performing → Taking Responsibility
By the end of the program, our aim is for a successful candidate to have developed the practical skills and confidence expected of a junior solicitor.
YOUR POTENTIAL CAREER PATH
Our long‐term objective is to identify talented graduates early and develop them within the firm.
The potential pathway is:
PLT Student
Graduate Legal Trainee
Graduate / Junior Solicitor
Developing Solicitor
Experienced Solicitor
The 6-month Graduate Legal Training Program is both a development and assessment pathway.
Completion of the program does not automatically guarantee a permanent position.
Candidates who demonstrate the required legal capability, professionalism, work ethic, performance, client service and cultural fit may be offered ongoing employment as a Graduate / Junior Solicitor.
OUR SELECTION PROCESS
We are serious about finding the right people, so our selection process goes beyond simply reviewing a CV.
Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a practical written assessment and attend an interview.
We want to understand how you:
Think
Write
Analyse information
Solve problems
Prioritise competing tasks
Respond to feedback
Communicate with others
Your academic results matter, but they are not the only thing we look at.
We want to see the person behind the resume.
