Build the HR function from the ground up and make it your own!
Sutherland Shire Area | Full-time Permanent Role | 5 days onsite and parking available
This is a rare opportunity to join a
well known building company
at an exciting stage of growth and take ownership of its people function.
With a workforce of approximately 100 employees and a strong reputation for delivering exceptional residential projects, the business has reached the point where HR can no longer sit solely with the Director and an external HR consultant.
They are now looking for an experienced
HR Manager
to bring the function in-house, become a trusted advisor to the leadership team and build the foundations for a scalable HR function. This is a
hands-on, high-impact role
where you will have genuine influence over how HR operates across the business.
The opportunity
Reporting directly to the Director, you will work closely with the leadership team and wider workforce, providing practical HR advice while developing the people strategy as the business continues to grow. You will be the go-to person for HR, supporting leaders who are relatively recent to managing the people function and giving them the confidence and tools to handle everything from performance conversations through to employee relations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Acting as the key HR advisor to the Director and leadership team
Providing practical advice on employee relations, performance management and workplace issues
Managing and advising on complex employee matters, including disciplinary processes and unfair dismissal risks
Coaching leaders through performance reviews, difficult conversations and people management

Ensuring compliance with relevant employment legislation, awards and HR best practice
Partnering with the leadership team on workforce and resource planning
Developing recruitment strategies to ensure the business has the right people at the right time
Supporting end-to-end recruitment across the business, working closely with hiring managers as requirements arise
Reviewing and developing HR policies, processes and documentation
Managing the employee lifecycle from onboarding through to exit
Working closely with the existing external HR consultant during the transition to an in-house HR function
Identifying opportunities to improve HR processes, systems and the overall employee experience
Building a strong HR foundation that can grow with the organisation
You will be an experienced
HR generalist / HR Manager
who is confident operating autonomously and comfortable being the person everyone comes to when they have an HR question. You don't necessarily need to have already held the title of HR Manager. Someone currently operating as a Senior HR Advisor or HR Business Partner who is ready to take ownership of an entire HR function will also be strongly considered.
We're looking for:
Approximately
5+ years' HR experience
Demonstrated experience managing or supporting a workforce of around
100 employees

Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation and HR compliance
Experience interpreting and applying
modern awards
Solid employee relations and performance management experience
Previous involvement in recruitment and workforce planning
Confidence advising and influencing senior leaders
Strong commercial judgement and the ability to provide practical, solutions-focused advice
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A proactive, hands-on approach and the confidence to operate independently
Construction, building, property or another operational/blue-collar environment will be highly regarded
Why join? This isn't a role where you'll inherit a fully established HR department and simply keep the wheels turning.
You'll build it.
You'll have the opportunity to:
Take ownership of HR within a successful luxury residential construction business
Work directly with the Director and senior leadership team
Have genuine influence over people strategy and business decisions
Bring an external HR function in-house and shape how HR operates
Build processes, policies and frameworks from the ground up
Work across both strategic HR and hands-on employee matters
Join a business that is continuing to grow and invest in its people
If you're an experienced HR professional looking for the opportunity to step into a true standalone HR leadership position and make a visible impact, I'd love to hear from you.
Be careful - Don't provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs. Don't transfer any money or complete suspicious online surveys. If you see something suspicious, report this job ad.
