Position Overview
Hanwha Defence Australia (HDA) is seeking a SIL Operational Networks Team Lead to lead the Operational Networks function within the System Integration Laboratory (SIL) located at Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE) in Avalon.
This is a key leadership role responsible for the management, security, availability and continuous improvement of the SIL classified and workbench network environments. Leading a multidisciplinary team of network engineers, systems administrators and support personnel, you will provide both technical and people leadership while ensuring the integrity and performance of critical laboratory and C4I environments.
You will play a significant role in supporting the development, integration, verification and validation of Defence capability, while contributing to the establishment and maintenance of authorised support systems through the collection of Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) and the development of verification documentation required for accreditation activities.
Primary Duties
As the SIL Operational Networks Team Lead, you will:
Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team responsible for the operation and support of SIL networks and associated infrastructure.
Drive the establishment, maintenance, security and continuous improvement of the System Integration Laboratory networking workplace, ensuring high levels of availability, performance and integrity.
Provide technical leadership for network architecture, operational standards, cybersecurity controls and risk management activities in support of accreditation and compliance requirements.
Support C4I and platform integration activities throughout the systems engineering lifecycle, including laboratory integration, testing, verification and validation activities.
Develop and maintain engineering artefacts, operational documentation, procedures,



test plans and technical reports to support project outcomes.
Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders including project teams, cyber security specialists, corporate ICT, customers, subcontractors and suppliers.
Report on project progress, priorities, risks and deliverables while managing allocated work packages and supporting broader SIL and Vehicle Integration team objectives.
Please note:
This role may require travel within Victoria, interstate and internationally to support subcontractor, integration and test activities.
Qualifications
Mandatory
Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
Desirable
Eligibility for or attainment of Chartered Professional Engineer status through Engineers Australia.
Industry certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Microsoft certifications, ITIL or equivalent.
Cybersecurity qualifications including CISSP, CISM, Security+, CySA+ or similar.
Experience
To be successful in this role, you will bring experience working within complex and secure ICT environments, ideally within the Defence sector.
You will have demonstrated expertise across network infrastructure, systems administration and cybersecurity, including Linux and Windows environments, Active Directory, virtualisation platforms, vulnerability management and system hardening practices. Experience supporting accredited or highly regulated environments, along with a strong understanding of Australian Government security frameworks such as the PSPF, DSPF and ISM, will be highly regarded.
Experience in systems engineering, network engineering, infrastructure operations or related disciplines is essential, while knowledge of manufacturing environments,



IT service management platforms and vehicle networking technologies would be advantageous.
