Café Catalina is seeking an experienced and passionate Head-Chef to join our dynamic culinary team in Southport, QLD. This is a full-time position that offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced hospitality environment where creativity, precision and teamwork are paramount. As Head-Chef, you will play a crucial leadership role in our kitchen, supporting Our fantastic team of chefs Chef in executing our menu whilst maintaining the highest standards of food quality, presentation and safety. Your expertise and dedication will be instrumental in delivering exceptional dining experiences to our valued guests.
What you'll be doing
Assisting in the planning, designing and executing all menu items with consistency and flair
Overseeing kitchen operations during service, ensuring all dishes are prepared to specification and plated to perfection
Training, supervising and mentoring junior kitchen staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
Maintaining rigorous food hygiene and safety standards in compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies
Managing food costs and inventory, minimising waste whilst maintaining quality ingredients
Monitoring kitchen equipment and reporting maintenance issues promptly to ensure smooth operations
Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes utilising advanced culinary techniques and presentation skills
Collaborating as Head Chef to develop seasonal specials and innovative menu additions
What we're looking for
Minimum 5 years' professional cooking experience in a busy restaurant or hospitality setting, with at least 2 years as a head-chef or senior kitchen role
Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, ingredients and culinary practices across various cuisines
Demonstrated expertise in kitchen management, including staff supervision, scheduling and performance management
Comprehensive understanding of food safety,



hygiene regulations and best practices, with relevant certifications (RSA/RCG or equivalent preferred)
Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask during high-pressure service periods
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork
Ability to lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to quality, consistency and continuous improvement
Creative mindset with a passion for developing new dishes and enhancing menu offerings
Physical stamina and the ability to work in a hot, demanding kitchen environment for extended periods
Problem-solving abilities and adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic workplace
Relevant qualifications in culinary arts, hospitality management or equivalent professional training (preferred)
