The Birthing in Our Communities (BiOC) program provides a coordinated and culturally safe support system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families during pregnancy and childbirth. By offering a comprehensive mix of services tailored to family and community needs, we aim to build family capacity, strengthen community connections, and safeguard the wellbeing of children.
Through holistic case management, and collaboration with multiple service providers, the Birthing in our Communities Practitioner will support families, through a client led framework of practice,



to improve maternal and infant health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families.The Practitioner will walk alongside families to identify and connect families to appropriate referral pathways, increasing safety, support and connection.
Identify as Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander
Minimum Diploma Qualification in community services or similar field
Minimum 3 years of client managementexperience within family support, child protection, youth support, housing or a related field
National Police Certificate
Blue Card
Driver's License
Evidence of Work Rights
Case Management Quality: Strong case management skills, including grammatical writing ability, personal organisation and time management, and execution of services according to the model of care phases of work.
Theoretical and Technical Practice: Demonstrated ability to critiquesocial work theoretical frameworks of practice, aligned with ATSICHS values. Ability to implement flexible client interventions that build client motivation, insight and acceptance, self-awareness, decision making (agency), and sustainable behaviour change.
Legislative Knowledge and Command: Ability to applyof relevant legislation (child protection/housing/youth justice etc). Ability to critiquelegislative grey zones, while managing organisational and child/client harm risks.
Communicating and Influencing External Stakeholders: Ability to proactively engage with stakeholders and develop strong working relationships
Whole-of-system Internal Integration: Ability to identify and refer families to internal and external servicesto activate wrap-around care for families
