Base Salary HEO6 $107,312 - $115,686 p.a. + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The
Scientific Software & Computing Support Technician
supports the Senior Linux Administrator and the Scientific Computing Team in supporting a diverse range of custom computing infrastructure and delivers bespoke technology support for Faculty of Science equipment. This can include associated computing hardware/firmware, operating systems, applications, software, storage, and related 'hands-on' support. The position is a field-service customer interface for the Scientific Computing Team working under general direction as a routine contact point for receiving, handling, and resolving a broad range of support incidents and requests. This role will deliver timely and effective technical services within these areas to achieve enhanced education/research support outcomes.
The
Scientific Software & Computing Support Technician
will assist in implementing current processes, procedures, systems, and ways of working within the work area to improve customer service delivery, efficiency and resource utilisation as directed. The
Scientific Software & Computing Support Technician
will provide training to facility users in the safe operation of equipment, software, and computing infrastructure. The role supports the senior technical officer in ensuring that the relevant Work, Health and Safety standards and other compliance requirements of the work area are met and are aligned to the University's WHS policy and relevant legislation.
The
Scientific Software and Computing Support Technician
will provide guidance to junior staff in the work area to deliver work outputs.
The successful candidate will be required to work on-site four days per week, with one day per week available for remote work (work from home).
Your key responsibilities will be to:




support the agreed delivery of technical servicesin the designated area
support the implementation of service improvements and service excellence within the responsibility area
contribute to a positive, professional, customer-focused team culture
support the effective utilisation of resources within the designated area of responsibility, ensuring the education and research needs of the work area are consistently and effectively met
champion best practices, workplace health and safety, compliance, and risk management
seek and act on opportunities to cross-skill, including drawing on the knowledge and expertise of others
provide project management or project support as required, collaborating with other TSS, PSU or central project managers/teams as required.
About you
tertiary qualifications and certifications in computing field and/or relevant experience. A background in Science at a University level is desirable
excellent working knowledge of computing/peripheral hardware and software technologies, troubleshooting issues relating to Linux, Windows, Apple, and Android environments
extensive experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting software and system dependencies in a research environment including imaging and deployment technologies
extensive experience managing cybersecurity, networking, and storage, with proficiency in command line use and scripting languages for system administration and troubleshooting
demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships withcustomers
ability to work both independently and as part of a team
ability to apply and contribute to the development, maintenance,



and review of standard technical documentation and operating procedures.
