We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Health and Safety Advisor to help deliver one of Canberra's most exciting and high-profile mixed-use developments - the Brickworks precinct in Yarralumla.Position OverviewDOMA is establishing a newly formed Construction Team to deliver one of Canberra's most exciting and high-profile mixed-use developments – the Brickworks precinct in Yarralumla.
This flagship project will set a new benchmark for quality, design, safety, and community integration within the ACT market.The Health and Safety Advisor is a site-based role responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Workplace and Quality (HSEQ) systems across the Brickworks Development Project.The position plays a critical role in ensuring construction activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards, WHS legislation, and applicable Codes of Practice.
The role requires a balanced approach between systems assurance, practical site engagement, and proactive safety leadership to support operational excellence across all stages of the project.Key ResponsibilitiesWHS Systems & ComplianceReview, assess, and approve subcontractor WHS documentation prior to commencement of works, including Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Registers, Plant and equipment compliance documentation, inspection and test records, worker licenses, competencies and inductionsVerify subcontractor compliance with project WHS Management Plans, site rules, legislative obligations, and principal contractor requirementsMaintain and manage WHS records, registers,



and compliance documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirementsSupport compliance with OFSC Scheme requirements, audits, and reporting obligationsAssist in the development and continuous improvement of site-based HSEQ systems and proceduresSafety, Compliance & EnvironmentEnforce all WHS policies and procedures and promote a strong safety cultureConduct site inductions, toolbox talks, and regular safety inspectionsEnsure compliance with statutory requirements, local authority conditions, and company standardsMaintain accurate WHS documentation, including SWMS, permits, and incident reportsSite Safety Leadership & MonitoringConduct regular site inspections, audits, and compliance checks to identify hazards, risks, and non-conformancesImplement and monitor corrective actions to ensure timely close-out of identified issuesMonitor high-risk construction activities to ensure works are performed in accordance with approved SWMS and project controlsTake a hands-on approach to safety leadership through active site presence and direct engagement with workers and subcontractorsIntervene where unsafe acts, behaviours, or conditions are identified and support immediate risk mitigationSupport incident notification, investigation, and reporting processes,



ensuring findings and actions are effectively implementedMobile Plant & Equipment ManagementVerify that all plant and equipment brought to site is compliant, inspected, and fit for purposeEnsure operators hold the appropriate licences, competencies, and VOCs (Verification of Competency)Monitor traffic management arrangements, plant movements, and pedestrian interaction controlsMaintain plant registers and associated compliance documentationSkills & ExperienceCertificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent)Minimum 2 years' experience in a WHS/HSEQ role within the construction industryDemonstrated understanding of WHS legislation and Codes of Practice.
SIMPEL experience (highly desirable)Experience managing subcontractor compliance and reviewing WHS documentation on active construction projectsStrong communication and stakeholder engagement skillsAbility to work autonomously while contributing positively within a team environmentStrong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced construction environmentFirst Aid qualificationTrade background within construction or related industriesWhy Join Us?
