Road Safety Officer
Murray River Council is seeking a passionate and proactive Road Safety Officer to join our Infrastructure team.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead road safety initiatives that make a real difference to our communities across the Murray River and Edward River Council areas.
Working closely with Transport for NSW, Council teams, community groups, schools, businesses and emergency services, you'll deliver evidence-based road safety programs that promote safer behaviours and help reduce road trauma across our region.
About the Role
As Road Safety Officer, you will coordinate and deliver local road safety programs across both Murray River Council and Edward River Council.
You'll work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate behavioural road safety initiatives aligned with Transport for NSW priorities and the Local Government Road Safety Program.
This position is employed by Murray River Council and works across both the Murray River and Edward River local government areas, providing an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on road safety outcomes across the region.
This role combines project coordination, stakeholder engagement, community education and strategic planning, providing an opportunity to create meaningful change and improve road safety outcomes across our communities.
You'll also support Council's heavy vehicle governance functions, working with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) and internal stakeholders to ensure road safety and compliance considerations are met.
What you'll be doing
Planning, developing and delivering evidence-based road safety initiatives and community education programs.
Implementing and monitoring Council's Local Road Safety Action Plan.
Collaborating with Transport for NSW, Police, schools, community groups and local businesses to promote road safety outcomes.
Analysing road safety data and community needs to identify priorities and opportunities for improvement.
Coordinating community engagement activities, campaigns, workshops and events.
Managing project budgets, reporting and funding requirements in line with program guidelines.




Monitoring and evaluating initiatives to measure effectiveness and improve outcomes.
Supporting heavy vehicle governance and coordinating advice relating to access permits and freight movements.
About You
We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated professional who is passionate about community safety and enjoys building strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You will bring:
Experience in road safety, transport planning, traffic management, community engagement, behaviour change programs or a related field.
Strong project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and partnership-building capabilities.
The ability to analyse information and develop evidence-based solutions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
Confidence working independently while also collaborating across teams and organisations.
A proactive, organised and community-focused approach.
Experience delivering community education, behaviour change or awareness programs.
A genuine passion for improving road safety outcomes and reducing road trauma.
Essential Requirements
Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in Road Safety, Transport Planning, Traffic Management, Community Engagement, Behaviour Change Programs or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement and partnership development.
Current Australian Driver Licence.
National Police Check.
Australian Citizenship or Residency.
Desirable
Experience working with local government, Transport for NSW or government-funded community programs.




Knowledge of the Safe System approach and Local Government Road Safety Program Guidelines.
Experience or knowledge of heavy vehicle road safety, NHVR processes and freight operations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and corporate business systems.

Salary & Benefits
Salary ranging from $72,987 - $81,745 (depending on qualifications and experience) plus, Superannuation.
