Senior Communications Advisor APS6 to EL1 equivalent – DefenceCanberra | Baseline Security Clearance | Initial 6-Month Contract + 6-Month ExtensionRate: $95 to $125 per hourCanberra Consulting is seeking experienced Communications Advisors / Communications Specialists to support a major program of workforce communication initiatives within the Department of Defence.Working within Defence's People Policy Division, you will support the planning and delivery of high-profile communication campaigns affecting both Australian Defence Force (ADF) and Australian Public Service (APS) personnel.This is a hands-on communications role requiring someone who can take a campaign from initial concept and planning through to content development, delivery and evaluation.The RoleYou will provide end-to-end communication support across a range of significant Defence workforce and people initiatives.Responsibilities will include:
Developing and delivering communication strategies and campaigns
Managing the full communication lifecycle including scoping, planning, scheduling, development, testing, delivery and evaluation
Providing expert communication advice to senior stakeholders
Developing presentations, briefs and communication materials
Supporting the development of multimedia content including video, animation, infographics and graphic design
Coordinating webinars, Q&A; sessions and other virtual communication activities
Stakeholder identification, analysis and engagement
Identifying and managing communication risks
Coordinating communications across multiple policy and workforce initiatives
Producing communication suitable for audiences ranging from Defence personnel through to senior executives and Ministers




About YouWe are looking for an experienced communications professional who can operate confidently within a complex and fast-moving workplace.You will ideally bring:
Strong experience developing and implementing communication strategies and campaigns
Excellent written communication and content development skills
Experience managing communications from planning through to delivery
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
Experience developing or coordinating multimedia and digital communication products
The ability to translate complex policy or organisational information into clear and engaging communications
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple communication priorities simultaneously
Experience working within Defence, the ADF, Australian Government or a similarly complex organisation will be highly regarded
Experience with Defence and/or ADF communication strategies and implementation will be particularly advantageous.Essential Requirements
Australian Citizenship
Current Baseline security clearance or higher
Ability to work oniste, in Canberra
The OpportunityThis is an opportunity to contribute to major workforce initiatives affecting Defence's APS and ADF workforce and work on communications with genuine enterprise-wide visibility.
Initial term: 6 months
Extension: Up to an additional 6 months
Location: Canberra, ACT
Security clearance: Baseline minimum
